If one were to have just one coin from the New Orleans mint in their box of 20 collection what would it be, in your personal opinion.

There is no wrong answer, just interested in your thoughts.

    Can only do one for each denomination. Silver.
    Half Dime. 1838-O.
    Dime 1838-O
    Quarter. 1853-O
    Half. 1861-O
    Dollar 1846-O

    1879-O double eagle only issue after the start of the Civil War

    There are a lot of great suggestions here but I like the1909-O Indian gold $5. Last year of the New Orleans. Mint and it's gold.
    Another neat coin is the CSA restrike half dollar made by overstriking 500 genuine 1861-O half dollars using the original CSA reverse die.

    1853-O V-2 is correct - crack through right side of 3 into base (similar but different crack in V-3)

    1857-O V-2 - vertical die line in base to rock left of shield.

    @PocketChange . That Trime is excellent. I concentrate on Seated coins and did not even know it existed. How extraordinary that the U.S. would make a one year expansion with a silver coin in 1851. There must be some reason. Did they think the public would consider that size of coin not worth melting? I will have to check some of my reference books. Thanks for posting. James

    Wow, such great replies and some kick butt coins/photos in this thread thank you. Lots of food for thought.

    After reading the thread thoroughly, researching the suggestions and doing some plugging around on my own I find myself most often thinking about the the 46O 1$ and the 38O 10¢.

    The 51O 3¢ and 49O Gold $1 are pretty intriguing as well...

    Hi all, not generally a poster here as I don't usually have the spare moments, but love the OP. I am quite partial to NOLA coins as this is my area of interest...and if anyone has ever browsed the O mint entries in the registry, then my handle might look familiar. Best O mint coin has to be the proof 44-o $10, but the last trade was about 5-7mill (I think) and it's really not collectible. All the entries above are excellent choices. As far as the best for a box of twenty entry, I'd choose a seated coin in 67 (eg-40o or 91o seated quarter-both 1 yr types), perhaps a barber in 68 (there are a few), or one of the eagles in 66 or better (again, there are a few). The O mint was known for shoddy production, so a gem really is a real gem!
