It has been a while since one came up for sale. Anyone interested? Any guesses on what the hammer price will be? I'm taking bets. In all seriousness, I'm Interested in your take on the current market for this grail coin!

It would be ideal grade for me, but I bet it will sell for more than I have ever paid for any piece in my collection.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. The strike is almost always weak . I always thought this example had the closet thing to a "Solid FULL Strike" ......

Why would someone consign this to Heritage with a 20% vig? The coin sells itself and hurts the seller unless they are getting a 17.5% kick back.

Has a few reverse issues, but overall that's a heck of a coin. Last sold for 170.k in 2013.
Based on the P12cac that sold in January, this one seems like it should get 250.k on the Bid. That's my WAG

what a great coin! it doesn't look messed with from the pics. clear date, wow. there's something appealing about how it circulated, it didn't get squirreled away as a souvenir here or in England or wherever, it passed through the hands of early commerce, so cool, I'd love to own this, I'll guess $330k with the juice

Estimates are too high unless someone has to have CAC. My VF30 sold a couple of years ago < $250K.

Gorgeous coin.
My thoughts about other thoughts expressed here. Why use a big auction house? Lots of exposure. Lots of eyes. Also, as with most things in business, the exact terms are negotiable. The consignor will most likely be given a significant percentage of the buyer's fees (and pay no seller fees).
As for the slab, some people like the fact that nobody has touched the coin for a couple of decades. Sure, it's more important with copper, but it's still something. The sticker helps, but ultimately it's the coin that will set the price.
And, yeah, it's pretty easy to clean up a slab. Almost free, and safer than a re-holder too, as long as you're careful.

It brought $240,000 all in today compared to CAC retail price guide of $210k and PCGS guide of $250k.
Same coin brought $170k in a 2013 auction. This latest price was about 10 percent more than a different F-12 CAC which sold in Jan 2024 at $216,000.

I thought it would go for $250,000+. I was able hold this coin at the CSNS and it was all there! I prefer circulated 94 dollars cause the weak strike blends well with the wear imo. Congrats to the buyer!

Your post confuses me. It’s about what a U.S. dollar can buy. Inflation reduces its value. What things you buy are irrelevant.
