It has been a while since one came up for sale. Anyone interested? Any guesses on what the hammer price will be? I'm taking bets. In all seriousness, I'm Interested in your take on the current market for this grail coin!

I guess $230k.
250k to 300k
NFL: Buffalo Bills & Green Bay Packers
Eye appeal is quite good for a F12. I could see $300k easily.
Nice coin.
That’s going to go big. These don’t come up often and this is a quality coin for the grade. Throw out the price books. $300k
honest circ cam color and not a hint of attempts to preserve it
add 20%!
Gorgeous for the grade.
Easy $300K or better.
It looks wholesome and people go nuts for the OGH/CAC combo.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I'd like 5 minutes to polish that slab.

Long as the buyer is happy it's money well spent 😎
I'd have assumed that the people who buy coins like this one won't care about the holder.
Some people might not care, but most assuredly, many others do.

A wonderful example of a 1794 dollar. Many of us wish we had purchased one twenty years ago.
No guess, but wow.
Successful transactions with: wondercoin, Tetromibi, PerryHall, PlatinumDuck, JohnMaben/Pegasus Coin & Jewelry, CoinFlip, and coinlieutenant.
that might be the most original circ 1794 dollar I've ever seen. love it!

Gorgeous example!
It would be ideal grade for me, but I bet it will sell for more than I have ever paid for any piece in my collection.
BIG $ .
They usually come with A LOT of issues . This piece is truly nice for the grade .
The strike is almost always weak . I always thought this example had the closet thing to a "Solid FULL Strike" ......
Might take 10.........
All seriousness, price will depend on how many bidders really want it. But it will be expensive for this wonderful coin..............................
Why would someone consign this to Heritage with a 20% vig? The coin sells itself and hurts the seller unless they are getting a 17.5% kick back.
I absolutely agree. I have never seen the stars on a 94 that strong. The CACG MS67 has nothing on this one. What's the grade?
NGC MS61. That was the grade when it sold in 2005 .

Whoa...
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Has a few reverse issues, but overall that's a heck of a coin. Last sold for 170.k in 2013.
Based on the P12cac that sold in January, this one seems like it should get 250.k on the Bid. That's my WAG
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

what a great coin! it doesn't look messed with from the pics. clear date, wow. there's something appealing about how it circulated, it didn't get squirreled away as a souvenir here or in England or wherever, it passed through the hands of early commerce, so cool, I'd love to own this, I'll guess $330k with the juice
Estimates are too high unless someone has to have CAC. My VF30 sold a couple of years ago < $250K.
The consignor is almost certainly getting hammer plus a certain amount of bid like you alluded to.
Why doesn't Heritage have someone polish it? Might bring even more money?
This surprises me. Would a new holder that wasn't chipped and scratched actually cause someone to sit out on a $300K coin they've otherwise been waiting 10 years to have a shot at buying? I would have thought the influence of the old holder became negligible at a price point a couple zeros lower.

The post to which I replied mentioned the “OGH/CAC combo”.
Some bidders might not care about the holder or the CAC sticker but others would, about one or both.

CAC sticker I can understand, especially on a coin at this price. Old holder is simply exonumia to me and the sticker can be replaced on a reholder.

I feel the same way you do. But I’m no longer surprised by (and try not to judge) some of the collecting priorities or requirements that differ so much from my own.

Gorgeous coin.
My thoughts about other thoughts expressed here. Why use a big auction house? Lots of exposure. Lots of eyes. Also, as with most things in business, the exact terms are negotiable. The consignor will most likely be given a significant percentage of the buyer's fees (and pay no seller fees).
As for the slab, some people like the fact that nobody has touched the coin for a couple of decades. Sure, it's more important with copper, but it's still something. The sticker helps, but ultimately it's the coin that will set the price.
And, yeah, it's pretty easy to clean up a slab. Almost free, and safer than a re-holder too, as long as you're careful.
Well said!
