I sometimes like to buy oddities like this when they are cheap. Love the concept of First Strike on a pre 2000 coin even though the coin itself is nothing special.
Then I took a chance on this 1921 High Relief. The online pictures were awful, but I thought I spied that it is VAM 3 (line through L). Not that I care much about the VAM, but it is a HOT 50 and the coin looked pretty decent to me so I took a chance:
And here's some decent photography:
Overall I think this is a very nice MS64 that should cross with ease.
This was my only pickup from FUN—wasn't looking for it, but wanted a souvenir and I can't seem to resist fully toned choice proof Barbers in older holders, esp. if CAC'd. Thanks Sanchez Currency of Miami.
I decided to trade my PCGS 64RB for this CACG example. I had (have) all 3 color designations of this very tough 4* rated S-1 variety. Great rev clash on these! The RB I had was one I really didn’t like, so this trade was an improvement & then some. Much better eye appeal + (drum roll), it’s “double stickered”.
New Liberty half dime proof arrived today—she'll replace a 1838 AU58 CAC example, continuing a trend of trading out business strikes for proofs in my type set(s). 1872 had a mintage of 950 proof examples.
I especially like this era of proofs w/originality, in OGHs w/CAC approval, so this coin will feel right at home alongside a handful of Barbers in similar dressage. Obverse has an antique look; reverse shows off nice blue color.
This is the best I could do with iPhone photos; the mirrors are pretty flashy for a 62, although I didn't highlight them directly in the photos. I'll have her sent for professional glamour shots in the coming weeks/months.
A shout out to Mike @MWALLACE who alerted me that this Love Token was on Ebay. Thanks for the message. I really like the Seated Liberty Dime with my initials engraved on the reverse.
