This is the last one - arriving today:
It will go nicely with my 1854-S $1 (the first year of operation for the SF Mint). If I can find a nice $20 like this, I’ll have the 3 to “complete” the set (the $2 1/2 & $5 are impossible)!

1756 Peru 1 Real
Closing 2024 with a ''ugly coin'' but still a date I needed and at 40$ and non holed the price was right. This coin is a beater but only the 2nd 1756 I have seen in over a year of searching. The last one was much nicer but I only saw it after the auction had closed (it was in a lot with 5 other coins and commanded a price way above what the 1756 was worth anyways). Will upgrade over time. Considered as an uncommon date per Yonaka:

Medium S, likely from a half dollar, and no period after fine. Estimated population is 50-60ish.

This is likely my last coin for 2024. It arrived yesterday. The year is ending on a good note with this bargain BIN for a choice raw AU coin with golden brown toning. This provides some evidence that there can be a "Santa Claus in Coins" every once in a while.
Edited to add: this is the seller's photo but is very representative of the coin except it doesn't show enough of the luster on the reverse.

Period 1 Cal fractional round dollar BG603 VF details damaged. These are generally very difficult to find and can be pricey. The round dollar series (601-607) only has 32 total PCGS graded examples. This one was at the right price as a damaged example.

Not a coin but I really like this recent pickup that I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival from Great Collections. This was an obscure Washington County bank (near the Lake George area) that closed its doors in 1930. It is one of just two notes reported from the bank and it came from the first sheet issued after the bank opened in 1906.

I have a couple of items that interest me in auction, but since I won't get those in 2024 if I am successful, this is my last coin, the Northumberland shilling. Sorry, it's not American.
This piece was made for some silver that was captured from the Spanish. The earl of Northumberland ordered 2,000 pieces to be made for circulation in Ireland. The total mintage was more like 100,000, but the coin is still scarce and popular. This piece was issued in 1763. The British would not issue another shilling, which was an important coin in their monetary system, until 1787. That gap was symbolic of the disfuntional monetary system under King George III.
I have been looking for one of these coins for about a year. The angle shot is provided to show the luster. The piece is PCGS graded MS-64.

Yes - I have both pro-southern and pro-northern CWTs in my collections.
I find the imagery, artistry and symbolism used to express different values and political messages across history fascinating.
