Just curious. . .how common is it to open a 77 OPC (or 77 Topps) was box and get results like these?

So full of action, my name should be a verb.

Agree with a previous poster about like to see/have grader notes on why some of those 9's failed to get a 10.

It is extremely uncommon. The cards are notorious for being wildly off center.

Maybe the long-term strategy is to not have a long-term strategy.

Wow. That might be one of the rare times where the contents were worth more opened vs sealed.

    Tom,
Any Tony Perez 9-10's? I ripped a few of these boxes and believe it's hard to find him not OC.....

  • BBBrkrrBBBrkrr Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭✭✭

Those are conditions that I expect should get 10s. Not 1000% perfect but still visibly great cards that should be 10s every day and all day.

    That Carew is wonderful.

These cards have great eye appeal. Love the bright white borders.

Congrats - great cards graded well deserved!

  • BBBrkrrBBBrkrr Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭✭✭

Both of those Candy Mans should be 10s.

It is an insult and crime against the hobby one is an 8.

Sure but it better have Mike Schmidt's back or similar because some slight OC-ing shouldn't kill that grade.

Congrats on the grades. Well deserved. TBH if I look at Yaz and Garvey no idea why Garvey is a 10 but Yaz is a 9. I would say the Yaz is actually nicer. Every one of these cards is gorgeous and I covet the Reggie Jacksons.

    Those are BLAZING.

    Love that Madlock.

Congratulations on all those. You got the unicorn box for sure.

  • Perhaps you are destined to assemble the best 1977 OPC set. You certainly have an amazing start, which would also provide a great story to the set. I once heard that E. Haeberlin, who formed one of the finest collections of Roman Republican coins, decided to specialize after a great purchase opportunity presented itself. Could be fate at work again here!

The Yount is HUGE! Such a difficult card to find in high grade for so many reasons

Absolutely phenomenal cards. Congrats. That painted hat on Madlock is wonderful. I miss those. We should get some short prints in 2025 with mediocre paint jobs. Give me some super scarce Juan Soto Kyle Tucker Max Fried Blake Snell cards where someone quickly paints their new cap on a 2024 picture.

What was the lowest grade you received

  • BBBrkrrBBBrkrr Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭✭✭

If I got that Yount I’d consider the box a success.

Don’t ever open another one because you can only be disappointed after this rip!

    Tom,
This is box was absolutely loaded with perfectly centered cards. The fact that PSA actually put them in PSA 10 holders is mind blowing as well. The cards deserved the GEM rating, so it is refreshing to see you rewarded for that. I am speechless and jealous. :)
