1977 O-Pee-Chee Baseball Box Break!

  • Sadly the star cards will probably grade 8 or 9 at best, and one common card a 10 to throw you a bone. The graders the past few years don't know much about vintage grading. Just from your pics that Ryan is a 9 minimum!

Looking for 1970 to 1979 Unopened Football cellos and rack packs.
Oakland Raiders on top or back of any packs as well.

If I didn't see the backs, I wouldn't have believed they were O-Pee-Chees with that kind of centering.
    Congrats on that box!

    That's a sweet James Rodney!

Wow what a box. Going to have to keep checking out your site in case you sell some of these after you grade them.

Incredible find bruh!!! those cards are unbelievable. Most of these cards look like 10's. Will you submit them to PSA or somewhere SGC?

On the Ryan, the only thing that hurts you a bit from getting a 10 is the back centering. I think it has to be 75/25 on the back and side to side looks like 95/5 or 90/10 at best. But it is the best looking one I have ever seen.

and the white print issue in the G in ANGELS could cause a slight downtick? I'd say 8.5, maybe 9? Beauty of a card in any holder...

    Tom,
This was an incredible box that you opened. Are your plans to sell them? Please let me know because I want to bid on these or have a chance to purchase them. Unreal!!!

Wild that just one box of OPC from the seventies yielded such gorgeous cards...the majority consensus of this collecting community seems they should mostly grade 9s and 10's of which I agree...anything less wouldn't bode well for vintage graded card collecting...maybe hold on to them for a year or two to see where vintage card grading is at...

Appreciate everyone checking out the break pics. Yeah this was an insane rip. Several card in here I have never found centered before. Nothing is for sale right now.

This is a unicorn box! Amazing centering on those OPC's.

  • Holy sh*t. It's like someone from the OPC factory during assembly took the best centered cards and put them in your box. Congrats and I hope to see some sweet grades in the future.

Registration is off the charts for most of these.

Odd that they used a different photo (which looks like it was from the same day and photo session as the Topps) for Carter.

These cards are great!! I have always wondered why they didn't leave the All Star designation on the cards.

Super looking stuff, I ripped a ton of that years ago. I graded a bunch and sold the 9s and 10s put together a well centered NM to MT raw set (less about 15 cards that need upgraded due to centering).

Absolutely love that set, thanks for posting!

    unreal box

can't help but wonder where it would have hammered had people been somehow privy to the frame jobs that awaited inside

can't wait to see how the bad boys in this thread grade out

you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

Awesome grades and well deserved. That Ryan is a monster card. Didn’t see them on OPC baseball.com are they PC or are you going to sell them a different route? If PC congratulations on some incredible cards.

Were these at a higher service level than the others or are some other grades back as well?

This was truly a box for the ages.

The grades just became available. Not sure what my plan is right now. I may send back in. There are a lot more that are in bulk service

Simply not right. You should have been given at least one 10 out of those.

There were others that got 9's as well. Exactly why I may send back in. Honestly, I doubt there is a nicer Ryan out there.
Yount is known not just for centering but surface snow. Munson is a PITA to find 60/40. I owned the #1 Finest 1977 OPC set in the Registry with well over 100 PSA 10'S. These cards here are nicer than many of the 10's I had

The way things are these days, I'm just glad you got 9's!

    Beauties.

  • BBBrkrrBBBrkrr Posts: 1,261 ✭✭✭✭✭

I've always loved that 77 Fisk. His 74 is great too, but the 77 is an amazing photo.

Don't know the back, but that's a great card.

  • Chicago1976Chicago1976 Posts: 539 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well done! I have a binder of '77's from my childhood and none of them are centered..,lol.

  • baz518baz518 Posts: 1,238 ✭✭✭✭

Absolutely beautiful cards!! I would send all those 9s back and ask for detailed grader notes... insane none of those got a 10.
