I was almost second-guessing myself but thankfully the sell out took the temptation away.

The HHL reset took me about 30 seconds before I could order.
Placed 2 single orders before they sold out, both confirmed.

Between my first and second order there were 21 orders placed, in about 20 seconds.

    That was ballsy, Bullsitter.
Makes me wonder if even though limit was lifted, they had a “limit” nonetheless?

    No tellin' with the Mint.
I thought they would last about 5 minutes. I was surprised they were gone so quick.

Only takes one dealer to take 1000 at one time. Try 7:30 AM there may be some left. 3 is enough for me.

More old school try 6:30 am central time tomorrow for some leftovers. Then the next day and the next. Then they might throw a curve ball and change the left over start time. I did it for over 30 days for the V75 AGE and I was shocked when it paid off.

Sometimes it was worth rushing to eBay and picking off cheap resales. Worked great on the 2008-W gold buffaloes. Forget it on this one unless you find sealed boxes at a decent price otherwise you’re buying scratched off lottery tickets. I won’t be opening my paltry single coin.

  • Okay now we have to wait for shipping to begin (not sure when the mint would start that).

Don’t be surprised if you see offers to buy these STILL SEALED ONLY. Odds are slim for a privy so don’t expect home run offers.

You guy’s shouldn’t have spent the extra $20 shipping. Just got my shipping notice (budget shipping) along with a USPS notice that it expects to deliver this Saturday.
Edit : Holy 💩 USPS notice not just label printed but already arrive at regional facility. That is fast.

MCM and Pinehurst sold apx 400 raw coins before they sold out @129 each.
I'm guessing they weren't good enough to grade.

I wonder if we'll see a privy w the gold announced late. Much more expensive game to play.

Re the talk of silver returns. The Mint dies not take kindly to unlimited returns like in the 08 w rev of 07 days.

I'm so glad that the dealers didn't get these inside deals in 2020 w the v75s. Likely far fewer of us would have ever scored gold - my best score ever from the Mint to be sure.

Right. Except then, you knew exactly what you were getting. With these, even starting tomorrow, you'll never know whether or not you are getting someone's picked over return.

Trust me, in a few weeks you'll be able to get as many as you want, with nothing disappearing from a cart. Only catch is that your odds of getting a privy just went from 2.4% (if it was ever that to begin with for us mere mortals) to 0.0% on whatever pops up going forward.

Just no way to know whether it's a virgin box that has never been touched, and was just returned to inventory because a payment was bad or the Mint rejected an order for violating the HHL, OR, if someone looked at the coin and returned it to inventory.

All you'll know for sure at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow is that what you are being allowed to buy was not available for purchase at 12:03 p.m. today. Knock yourself out, but I'd never be interested, not at $104 plus shipping, given how many are soon to flood the market from dealers who had to take them off the Mint's hands to get the ones with the privy, and now can't return them.

What are the guesses as to where the privey 70s will settle out in a couple years? Obviously no one knows but interested in what folks think. I've not followed medals nearly so much as coins.

I'll be surprised. Dealers already got theirs with no risk.

Given the terrible odds, the fact that the after market buyer won't be able to return them, the fact that the plain medals will not be trading anywhere near $104 in the near future, and then the fact that someone is going to figure out a way to mess with the seal, I wouldn't pay anything at all for a sealed box.

I guess there will be a market, but I can't imagine how robust it will be. The last time around, with the 75th anniversary AGEs, distribution was fair and wide, as evidenced by the fact you eventually got one.

Not so this time, where the dealers were able to pick up many through the ABPP and bulk purchase program. Which is why, even as many were pooping over this yesterday, what was left went in literally an instant once made available this afternoon.

Given that dealers were able to secure inventory at $104 (even less with the bulk purchase discount, a little more with the ABPP premium), they are not going to be buyers in the secondary market. In fact, they will have a lot more to sell than the last time around, given the way these were distributed.

That's going to do two things, once things settle down: (i) depress whatever the price is going to be for the one with the privy, since they won't be competing with collectors to buy them, and there will be more offered for sale than with the AGEs; and then (ii) greatly diminish the appeal of a sealed box, since the prize is going to be a lot less than hoped for, the odds of winning are going to suck, AND there will be no guarantee the box wasn't tampered with.

Sure that's always a risk, but it's going to be a risk on steroids given that there will be sealed boxes containing returns floating around in a few weeks. Think of the fun scammers will have with them!

Bottom line -- if I was you, I'd take my shot and break the seal. Unless you can find someone to give you $500+ for it right now. Because in a few weeks I don't think it's going to be worth anything, and you might actually have a prize inside.

I think you might be seeing secondary market dealer purchasing in this issue soon. I'm hearing thru my contacts of pricing around $120 being offered / open box for quantities (not online). Still confirming.

It all depends on the collector demand. With the sellout, the 10% or so reserved for the dealers will be gone very soon thru all the different sales channels. They will need to restock.

And if you sell a sealed box on ebay and they don't win, good chance of a rrrturn!

It is not a US Commemorative coin, and it is probably not in any commonly held Registry set either. As a medal, even though I am a big medal collector, it probably will not have staying power at these $3,350 to $5,000 levels.

This really needed to be a silver dollar, since it is based on one.

I wish they would have waited to get that approved by Congress, if necessary, before quickly doing this medal and using a privy gimmick to sell them.

My guess is they will settle into a $1,000- $1,500 range, other than maybe in the TV marketer world.

Given that, I think these are going to be more popular than people think. Given how rare it will be to have a certified COA with coin, I might just have to send my two in unopened. The suspense will kill me though even though it's not like I realistically expect to get one. Looks like my order has shipped.

Yep, open box worth more. Sealed box w/privy only $150. Of course, you'd never know. $25 in hand vs $1875 in the bush.

Keep in mind, there are only 50 graded privy medals at PCGS at this very early stage.

Prices are usually high at the beginning for those who like to pay extra to get one early. The TV folks will buy a few as well to be sure they have some stock to hype for even more money.

When several hundred more of these are graded in a week or two, and dozens more are listed on eBay the next few weeks, it will be the normal slow grind down in selling price. People who are lucky to get these will want to sell fast while demand is high, and supply is low.

My brother was able to snag 10 more for me today. I ordered 1 yesterday. All 11 are shipping to me.

    Order 1: USM148399xx
Order 2: USM148838xx for a difference of about 44,000 orders.

Orders were placed almost exactly 24 hours apart. Thanks bro' :)
