With my limited experience, I think not original, probably dipped. No hairlines are evident, however.
A nice bust dime, lots of detail, but please let me have your opinions.

    Cleaned or burnished but still has considerable appeal, especially considering that it is a 201 year old coin. Market acceptable to many collectors.

    Looks like the large E variety.
    I would also think it’s market acceptable and estimate the grade to be close to XF40.
    Neat coin.

    EF-40, old style grading. If it’s burnished, it’s no showing in the photos.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    The coin looks like a (straight grade) XF45 to me.

    My opinions, hmmm.... Just by looking st it I can see that it is 89.24% silver and 10.76% copper, that it weighs slightly under 2.7 grams, was probably minted in 1823, was minted in Philadelphia, and that it has a reeded edge. If you ask me, do I have good eyesight or what. :smiley:

    I have no problem with her. And btw just about everything has been dipped, you can thank the dealers with that one. Next time you go to a brick and mortar ask for a tour of their offices and you will find every cleaning product in th ebook on the dealer's desks. Collectors want nice looking material and the dealer provides that the best that they can do

    I agree with a couple other posters. While I do not see it as strictly original, I see no reason it wouldn't straight grade at our hosts at about the 45 level.

    Definitely a worthwhile coin IMO.

    23/2's are neat varieties, and Sean @Bikergeek gives a great summary of the Die Marriages for this date, and the overall enthusiasm many of us have for Bust material.

    It looks AU-range to me although the images make it difficult to get a feel for the true surface quality. It's also a cooler die-marriage in my opinion.

    The reverse is solid AU. The obverse possibly not so much. However, this is an open collar coin, and I don't know how well this variety was struck. Some stars not fully stuck due to out of parallel dies, common with Bust coinage.

    The Bust coins I know best are the Capped Bust Halves. If the obverse has luster breaks in the high points (hair below LIBERTY), this coin is probably a nice XF. I bring this up because I've seen plenty of clearly Unc. Capped Bust Halves that are lacking detail due to being open collar coins and some areas of the coin were not fully struck.
