It's a hard pass for me. The mint is over producing modern Commemoratives that will eventually lead to a lack of interest and value of these coins.

    "NO" design will ever accurately depict and represent the life, times and sacrifice of the greatest generation!

    They did everything but run to the recruiter after December 7th 1941.

    Mintages have declined on modern commemoratives in the last few years. I’ll get an uncirculated version of each (not gold) to keep the collection current.

    I will buy the half dollar and dollar in both proof and uncirculated condition. This topic is the most worthy of commemoration since the 2019 issue for Apollo 11.

    I also ended up purchasing the three coin proof set, only the second time I have bought a gold coin, the first being the aforementioned Apollo 11 program in 2019.

    I'll pass. The mint has already issued coins for World War II and the like.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Guess not . No HHL and still available. The flip is DOA. That being said they are for a good cause. Buy for your collection or Christmas gifts for the old folks like me. 👨🏻‍🦳

    As I have accumulated the other $5 gold commems, I will go for the golds in the secondary market as I have in the past. One can find most in PR/MS 70 for far less than USM prices. A good way to stack IMHO.

    Difficult task. Not many vets, who saw COMBAT, are still alive. If so, they'd be in their upper 90's or low 100 age group.

    My five uncles served in World War Two and two had to get my grandmother to sign off as they were just under the age to join on their own. I got the three coin set and will sure remember there sacrifice as I enjoy this series of coins.

    Really like modern silver Commems cheaper than generic Classic walkers or dollars plus sell well for me on bourse. Plan pickup some of those Greatest Gen.

    My father passed away 13 years ago. Although he was an Ensign in the Merchant Marines during World War II, he was given the duty of steering ships thru mine fields many times. He always said he didn't know if he got the assignments because he was so good or because he was a good scapegoat if they got blown up. (LOL). I think he was good because all came home without a scratch.
    If he was still alive I would have got the three coin set for him. RIP dad.

    has anyone got a three coin set with the signed by the mint director COA ? Think twice before buying from a dealer who claims to have a lot of them. I smell something rotten in this promotion. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. >:)

    Yes, the sacrifices were truly significant, both for those who served, as well as on the home front.

    Many did run to the recruiter on 12/8/41 and thereafter to enlist.

    It's a pass for me. The prices on that stuff have gone sky high because of the price of gold. There have been other World War II commemorative coins. Why is this one necessary?

    I used to keep up with all of the new commemorative coins, but I gave up on that about a decade ago. The modern series has fallen into the same trap as the old one (1892 to 1954) did. There are too many coins hunting for a reason to be issued.

    I will know soon enough. I haven’t opened mine yet but will have the tpg open it at the submission table as soon as I get to a show. Not expecting to have one but we will see.

    Agree there are quite a few WWII commemorative coins. The dollar and half eagle say WWII Memorial so this may be a WWII Memorial commemorative coin set for a different purpose than the others.

    Of note, I don’t see anything on the coins that says Greatest Generation which is interesting.

    This one is at least a 50th anniversary.

    The new dollar has the dates 1941, 1945, and 2024. How is 2024 related to 1941 or 1945?

    "The Greatest Generation" began appearing in 1998 when newsman Tom Brokaw published his book which consisted of interviews with US World War II servicemen.

    I remember an interview with a senator's wife. She said that she was interviewing World War II veterans with the idea of writing a book.

    She wanted Tom Brokaw to know that she was not going to "poach" on his book.

    "I'm from Germany and we were in on it too".

    I did not have the signed COA in my box. Submitted the coins earlier today and was told there was not a Ventris sighed COA.
