Great Britain 1819 crown (5 shillings, .925 fine silver - British currency was expressed in pounds sterling, which gave rise to the description of anything produced in silver of this fineness as being made of "sterling silver"). Raised edge lettering: "ANNO REGNI LIX DECUS ET TUTAMEN" (translation: "REGNAL YEAR 59 AN ORNAMENT AND A SAFEGUARD" ) The edge lettering often seen as protection against filing off of the precious metal around the edge.

For the viewers, several of the holders are beat up, so the lines you see are on the holders, not the coins.

Any marks you see are grossly exaggerated from casting shadows when imaging. This peace dollar is pretty clean.

Al, thanks for this. I got into the hobby when Jesus walked at Eboli because I was interested in the coins themselves, and imagined what stories they could tell if they could speak. Grading is important, but to me, the coin is what the hobby is about. If I want to make money, that's why I work for a living.
