The photos below are from Ise, the secluded locale of the Emperor's Family Shrine.

Preparatory to the prior Emperor's abdication and new Emperor's coronation the Emperor traveled from the Imperial Palace in Tokyo to the forested location of Ise some 200 miles distant to report and impliedly obtain the blessing and approval from the Emperor's furthest ancestor Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess whose home is within the inner shrine Naiku. (Ise was established as her home in 4 BC. after a 20 year search by the then Emperor's daughter ). Such approvals have been historically sought when major decisions were being made and have included important decisions made with regard to World War II. Those decisions included Japan's surrender.

The Emperor's or Imperial Shrine in Ise (Naiku) is the most revered Shinto Shrine in Japan. The Emperor's Shrine is dedicated to Amaterasu-Omikami, the ancestral kami (Shinto deity) of the Imperial family. She was enshrined in Naiku about 2,000 years ago and has been revered as a guardian of Japan. Within the shrine is kept the sacred mirror that the Sun Goddess gifted the first Emperor. While only the Emperor and Chief High Priest are allowed to see it, reportedly it has remained covered in a bag and unseen since the Third Century.

The shrines at Ise are rebuilt each 20 years as a manifestation of the Shinto belief in renewal. (This also includes the Uji Bridge, as seen in my photo below, that crosses the Isuzu river to reach the Emperor's Shrine. The next rebuilding will be in 2033.). Incidentally, the special relationship between the Sun Goddess and Japan is symbolized by the glowing sun on Japan's flag. Legend has it that when the Sun Goddess once secluded herself in a cave the world became dark so in effect Japan has held influence over the world through its relationship to the Sun Goddess which has included Ise as a satisfactory place for her to be enshrined. She reportedly made the choice herself by relating it to that past Emperor's daughter at the conclusion of her search back in 4 BC. When that choice was made the Princess had fifty bells rung along the river to mark the location. The river came to be named Isuzu, which means fifty bells.

The below pictured screenshots of Ise locations were included on Japanese TV in conjunction with the new Emperor's coronation in the Fall of 2019. My photos at Ise were taken in the Spring of 2019 just a week prior to the prior Emperor's visit to and reporting to the Sun Goddess at the Imperial Family's Shrine there. The Emperor's Shrine itself is located behind a series of walls hiding it, the first of which is seen at the top of the pictured steps. It is at this location at the top of the steps that millions of Japanese pilgrims come to offer their prayers to and seek blessings from Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess.

Had to cringe when I saw that. First of all it is never a good idea to mess with a Sow's cubs. Have to believe that was photoshopped.

One day I had an urge to get creative for myself, and this happened. I took a few coin photo's spliced them, filtered them and came up with the photo below. NOT A COIN, ONLY AN ARTISTIC PHOTO.
