That looks like the hanging rock in my area. There is a plaque there stating that George Washington slept under it on the Continental Army's march to Valley Forge
After Tunisia, Hauptmann Hans Dietrich deserted. changed his name, and emigrated to Mexico. Producers liked his looks and accent. Movie roles and T.V. series led him to the most secure job in Hollywood—the soaps, in which he has gone by the name of Victor Newman since 1980.
In the above photos from this morning, last year's Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race champion, Ryan Reddington from Knik Alaska, is seen wearing Bib #21. This is his 16th race start (having completed 9 finishes) and he has finished in the top ten in four of them. To date he has amassed $163,960 in prize money.
Wearing Bib #11 (the bib numbers correlate to the starting positions that were determined earlier this week in a drawing) is rookie musher Joshua Robbins from Willow Alaska. He is one of 16 rookies racing for their first time in the 1,000 plus miles to Nome Alaska Iditarod Trail Sled DogRace. Total number of qualifying entrants for 2004 is 58 with Bib #1 going to the Honorary Racer. (Wearing Bib #59, Walter "Wally" Robinson of Nenana Alaska was the last musher to leave the starting gate.)
The Iditarod originated in 1973 and this year is the 52nd Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. It has come to commemorate the 1925 Serum Run to Nome Alaska when the needed medication was transported by sled dog teams to save lives of those suffering there from diphtheria.
Here I will attempt to post my YouTube videos from today which chronicle rookie musher Joshua Robbins with his barking and leaping dogs anxiously waiting their turn to exit the starting gate as well as the last musher, Walter "Wally" Robinson as he and his team take off.
