South Africa 1931 2 1/2 Shillings. Mintage of 790 total!
At NGC there are 10 coins (1 BU, 2 AU's, no EFs) for all grades plus 9 coins in detail grades. If 4% exist there are only about 30 of these!
There are some other denominations from 1931 that are even rarer, like the 6 pence.
This worn coin with rim bumps went for $1500 online. I was the nearly as crazy under bidder.
Unearthed out of a buried treasure in Michigan 2001. A Detroit Newspaper dated April 1945 was found in a nearby wall cinderblock. Many of the coins were 1944 uncirculated half dollars:

I love this crusty, stained AG3 early die state 1855/854 as well. I picked it off eBay at the same time I was purchasing the 78-S and it was a fun distraction. I was delighted by the look of the coin even though the reverse appears to be stained on the wings,
Some coins speak to you, this one was shouting "BUY ME NOW!" That $48 coin made my day. It arrived the day after the 78-S along with a Newfoundland half that was lost in the mail for a month. Finally, Northwestern beat Illinois 45-43! It was the perfect weekend.
A 10-minute acetone soak didn't remove any toning from the wings. The best part is that it is a clear early die state. Any chance that it will straight grade? I think it could if such stains are considered acceptable for the low grade coin. If I have it conserved, they'll dip it and ruin the coin. It's likely going to be a desktop, Air-tite coin.
I’m mainly a peace dollar guy, but I recently put together a reasonably modest, eBay only 20th century type set (no gold) for a bit of a personal challenge.
I’d never really liked Barbers much, but this quarter changed my mind. It’s now one of my top five faves.

A recent purchase I had to chase down; where I tried to buy at auction and was the under bidder, then it showed up at a dealer's site.
