This is a huge loss for those of us who love his work. Hopefully he’s as good a mentor to his colleagues in the photo department as he was with his camera. Phil will be missed!!

I remember PM'ing back and forth with darkhorse back when he was thinking of applying to PCGS for the position. Congrats on all your success Phil, and good luck with your next gig!

It was Phil's great photo work that allowed me to make such nice customized coin art for my walls. PCGS having a photographer with consistency and an eye for detail was the only way to accomplish this level of artistry. Phil, you will be missed.

Dang! We'll surely miss Phil. We loved his work but also his nature. Helpful, modest, industrious. He always seemed to care and go out of his way for customers.
We had numerous PM's over the years. I always enjoyed his openness. He was very genuine.
Best of luck to you, Phil. I'm sure you're doing the right thing for your career as well as your young family.

Is Ron Howard still the head of grading there? Who've been the longest at the helm there? The level of talent reminds me of best and brightest that produced all the great TV shows of the 60s and 70s.

Phil changed the world of numismatics for the better. There are collectors all over without the means to go to shows or just without local shops or clubs and those collectors were able to gather together online and share their love of numismatics through the work that Phil did. Coin photography is such a difficult skill to master and it's pretty clear that through the Trueview service Phil changed the game across the board. I spent all my years collecting graded coins using solely PCGS for submissions because of the fine photos.
Good luck in all your future endeavors Phil. You deserve only the best.

There have been times when the deciding factor in whether to purchase a coin or not was if it had a TrueView.

I just received a 15 coin submission for Trueviews yesterday. Maybe some of his last work for our hosts. Pictures are excellent.

I like the True Views and PCGS will miss Phil. I do not know how large the photo team has gotten, so unsure if it will extend submission turnaround times even more

My guess is that you have spent time choosing and training a good successor, so I'll bet that we can still expect high quality images.

I agree. I'm sure his successor(s) have his tools of the trade.
Phil, was not only a great photographer of every kind of coin, but he was also a great communicator with his customers.
He's leaving PCGS in a better place no doubt.
