Your Most Wanted Coin

What coin have you been chasing for a while that you just haven’t been able to find? How long have you been looking?

For me, it is a Seated Liberty Dollar anywhere from XF 45 to AU 58 with nice toning for the type set. Possibly could go for a low end attractive MS coin but those might be tough to find in my desired price range. I’ve been watching for one this year and have been the underbidder once.

    A handful come to mind but one has proven elusive for the most amount of time for me; 1837 Large 5C H10¢ in eye appealing high AU

    Don't know. I haven't discovered it yet. Among the seated Liberty halves, maybe it's an 1875-S WB-88. Maybe it's a 1873-S WB-2. Wouldn't that be cool.

    There are toners that I know exist and really want but I can't find them. It can be frustrating but there's also the thrill of the hunt. Patience is a virtue I guess.

    I would like to find an 18##-# Seated Liberty 25c in MS63 or higher. Sorry - can't tell you which coin it is, because threads like this one have a long history of driving the demand and prices upward on HTF numismatic items. Live and learn. :p

    The 18##-# Seated Liberty 25c is the last coin I need to complete a business strike Registry set 1838-1891-S. Yes, I have all the CC mints in PCGS holders already - so it's a less famous coin in the series. There is also the little issue of needing to cross one existing coin from an NGC holder to PCGS, but I think I'm OK there.

    The ms70 rattus has a population of 2 and another collector has one already.

    Coins in my primary collecting interest (a non-US segment) that I do not own now. Most I've seen but only as dreck. Of the 100 coins total, I own less than half.

    semikeycollector, I agree with your thought on the 1866 - 39 graded at PCGS in all grades. Similarly 1867 - 41 graded at PCGS in all grades.

    I am fortunate to have an 1866 in VF35 CAC.

    I've always wanted a nice 39-O bust half in AU with die cracks all over it. There are a lot of ugly examples and attractive ones go for moon money.
    I'm also in love with 1917 Type 1 Standing Lib quarter, one of these days I will find the right one.

    1901S PO01 Barber quarter. I haven't checked the pops in a a few years and I see the number of poor's across the series has exploded.

    Currently, probably a legit chopmarked early US Dollar (pre-1804) to complete my type set of chopmarked US crown-sized coins. If not that, then a chopmarked Chile Volcano Peso.

    1793 Liberty cap large cent. This coin has always been just a lit bit out of my purchasing cost range. Very rare coin, way rarer then the chain cent. The chain cent is more popular. I have never had a chain cent either, but if I had a choice it is the 1793 liberty cap for me.

    Yes, I think this thread would be more meaningful if it were limited to the respondent's budget. I'd like to own the 1729 Madrid mint (crowned "M") pattern pillar 8R. It's also in the Banco de Mexico collection, so I'll never own it.

    Of the 100 coins composing my primary interest I don't own now, either the 1766 Peru 1/2R or a choice PTS 1/2R.

    Coin I’ll likely never get: 1794 half dollar.

    Several years ago David Lawrence had a gorgeous XF small eagle half dollar....i still kick myself for not buying it. I haven't seen a circulated one that nice since.
