What would cause such extreme colorization like this?

I’m not sure if these came from a roll or not but there is a group (maybe 6 or 7?) of 1920 quarters that look similar. I have not seen this pattern on any other date.

How many types of SLQ are there?
    1. 1916 (is this it's own type? the beading is certainly different)
    2. 1917 exposed breast
    3. 1917-1924 (flat date)
    4. 1925-1930 (recessed date)

Really cool coins everyone... just a beautiful, elegant design.

I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

@winesteven, that is one amazing looking SLQ in FH! Love the look of the 1916’s. CAC is well deserved on the coin. That beauty could easily go 65 FH. I’ve seen lesser looking coins graded higher. Possibly reconsideration?

The dealer I bought it from agrees with you, and he was kind enough to let me know he tried that before selling it to me. I also tried, and would have done the Happy Dance if I even got just a plus, but I failed too. Oh well. I still really enjoy this coin for what it is!

    Thanks for your kind words.
