What percentage of you total posts count are “discussions” (i.e. threads you’ve started)? Mine is 14.5%

    189 discussions, or about 8.8%.

I'd bet 160 of those discussions are on BST! Ha!

Wow. I’m the highest so far. I saw someone’s today that was about 50% though.

I wonder how many of those 50% discussions are truly useful? Here are my numbers: 166/3,131 = 5.3% (and 8.5k points for those 3,131 posts).

If you count this post ... 4.508%

Certainly I read, comment and participate in other threads much more than initiating them. As it should be, I think.

I’ve been thinking a lot about it, and there are too many variables to consider to make a clear cut judgement. The BST certainly can skew things here.

I’ve noticed that I contribute to other people’s discussions a lot less because most often someone has already said what I would have said. I really enjoy reading and learning most of the time.

It seems that a higher % here might be looked upon as a negative, but like I said, there are a lot of reasons a % could be high. I would imagine that the higher the overall post count, the lower this percentage goes.

Having said all that, we all know of people who create a ton of threads, and only contribute comments to their own threads. That does seem rather selfish.

  • pursuitoflibertypursuitofliberty Posts: 6,799 ✭✭✭✭✭

    @JoeLewis

Yours doesn't seem high. Someone made a comment about 50%. THAT seems high, but it all depends. You're correct, the BST made my percentage higher than it might have been otherwise.

I don't look at it a high number as a negative either. I'll bet we can find some that have high percentages, but also high participation in those threads and great topics.

Like you, sometimes I don't comment. I feel that the like and agree can help me contribute as well, which don't affect these numbers.

    Neat thread and interesting responses.

We must be calculating this differently. I get 5.4% for you. I'm just dividing "discussions" by total posts.

    It's hard to believe I've posted 555 threads. I am a little windy I guess. ;)

How does one obtain the % ?

If you look in the upper right corner under "Quick Links", or under your user profile, it shows the number of "My Discussions", you can then calculate vs. your number of comments/posts for the percentage.
