Do you have a mint set? A coin from every mint? Most collectors do not!

Most collectors do not have a coin from every mint because even the lowest price coins from the Charlotte and Dahlonega mints are very expensive, because only gold coins were minted at these 2 mints. There is only one denomination that has been struck at the first seven early US mints and that is the $5.00 Liberty gold coins. I have decided to pursue my "Mint Set" in this denomination, slabbed in XF condition. Only the West Point coin will have to be different. $5.00 Liberty gold coins were struck from 1838 to 1908.
Here are the coins I have so far. Only need a D(Denver) and S(San Fransisco) and a W gold coin for completion. All $5.00 Liberty's straight graded.

    Nice coins... I do not have a Charlotte or Dahlonega gold coin or a CC gold coin.... Never thought of doing a set like that.... Cheers, RickO

    Thanks, personally I am not a fan of Capitol plastic coin holders-too big, too bulky and hard to store, get scratched easily, others may like them, but not for me. Thanks for the info.

    Edited to add-And whenever you want to change a coin you have to take them apart and then re-assemble.

    I like the capitol plastic holders. I have had probably 10. Never damaged, always kept in boxes. But can you imagine what it would cost to fill the above capital plastic holder? Wow. Probably why I never collected gold.

    Actually, I never really collected gold either until last year. I purchased all of the above coins in the past 10 months.

    Well, I do have most M-mint coins minted from 1903-1945 for the Philippines. But the Manila mint never produced regular US coins and no US gold coins, I believe. Considered -A branch US mint but only for Philippine coins.

    I couldn't afford that coin if it had been a parking lot find. I might try to stick with U.S. coins and I know some Philippine coins are considered U.S. at least I believe so.

    I have put the "all mints $5 gold set" together a couple of times. I completed one set in the Capital Plastics holder similar to the one shown above for the $2.50 coins, shown above, sold it, and now have another one in slabs. The Carson City Mint did not issue any quarter eagles.

    So far as West Point goes, I would purchase a commemorative $5 gold coin and leave it at that. You get some of those pieces for around the melt price. You could buy the 1/10 ounce bullion coin, but that is a completely different sort of item.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    I put this together a few years ago - an attempt to get all the mintmarks on different types. No Charlotte or Dahlonega, of course, but P and W. I suppose I could add a Manila 20 centavos, since they rated as ten cents US.

    I wish i did have at least 1 coin for each of the mints, active and inactive. Monetarily that is not possible for me. However, I can dream that dream. B)

    @rec78 I like your idea and it inspired me to think of a 'mint' set crossed with a 'type' set (a goal for many years in the future lol), but if I'm looking at things correctly there were no turban or draped half eagles. I like the idea of a first spouse/liberty coin for the W, but half eagles are already well out of my reach and from your post it sounds like eagles wouldn't work either.

    I think it's possible to collect a dollar coin from each mint, although you would have to mix gold and silver dollars.

    Did the 7 in $5 libs as part of my expanded type set. Makes a nice display showing the mm with a nice P obverse. Don’t think I’ll bother with W. Not a modern guy.
