Not RB to my eye. I'll say 64BN, late dies state, as noted, and pretty! Prints never bothered me much but most people, and graders don't like them.

I will guess 64BN as well. Possibly 63BN if PCGS is stingy. Worst case is Genuine-QC -- PCGS seems to be hammering colorfully toned Lincolns lately. I recently had a handful of album-toned Lincolns get hammered with QC (including a 31-S
)
I believe it deserves 65BN, but will probably grade 64BN. A beauty for that series. Congrats.

So this weak/soft strike ya'll guys have mentioned mixed with the obverse toning to me appears to be rub but apparently is not. I should change my answer from 58 to 65BN but instead I'll just wait to be schooled...

Thanks for all the guesses everyone. This came back MS62BN(!!). I had been expecting 63BN all day, maybe a small chance for RB.
On the bright side, this might be the nicest MS62BN 1931-S out there, so maybe it will go to CAC at some point. PCGS really tough graders these days!

Okay. PCGS says not "choice". "Select" unc. say they probably because of the bit of strike weakness seen. If this piece were mine, I would leave it be gradewise as you say you are going to do. CAC green sticker would likely happen and would be a nice touch. PCGS is very conservative, the most conservative grading service of them all. Notwithstanding what anyone says, your '31-S is a coin you can continue to be proud to own. The color/toning is very nice. As the millennials say, "it is what it is."

So my guess was AU62 and @telephoto1 gave me an lol. I hope it was for the AU and not the 62!!

The coin has the obverse look of lighter toned high point areas which appear to be cabinet friction. I know from medals which quite often sit in a "box of issue" for decades and end up looking similarly that it's not rub, but a coin like this would tend to be rub. So, yes, I think it was a sort of hedge.
