1968 D DDR -001 ? calling all experts please

I know the saying, it must match perfectly to be the coin, well, for the most part, I think it does,( there lies the problem) I've seen enough Machine Doubling to beleive it is not that, but as I said, calling all experts, because I am not 100 % what do you all think?

Machine doubling.
Classic machine doubling, unfortunately. The listed variety shows more on E PLURIBUS UNUM. Here is a link to the Coppercoins page for the variety, it has great photos of both the reverse doubling and obverse die markers.

No notching to be seen. A 68-D DDR is very hard to determine and yours is just too obvious of a MD example no matter how high the magnification pictures get.

It's MDD. As an aside, 1968 was the last year the original obverse was used. The mint produced a new obverse for 1969.
Look at how the lettering touches the rim, and the loss of detail over the last 59 years.
It's sad, but I believe it was necessary.
