Great Coin Pictures Thread - Identify the Photographer

Here's a thread where you can honor a photographer(s) who accurately captured the spirit, character, toning, etc of a coin, preferably of a coin you own. The goal of the thread is avoid glamor shots that really don't reflect what the coin looks like.

Bob Campbell @robec

Todd Pollock @blu62vette

Tom Bush @TomB (this coin I no longer own)

Please post a photo of a coin you own (preferably) that you feel meets the thread's objectives! And if you took it yourself, bravo!

    I captured this image of Avatar's new trailer, Water World.

    What amazing coin pictures. I remember when the first pictures were posted on this forum, and everyone was impressed. Then people became better, with lights, equipment, technique. No comparison to the pictures here today. Real works of numismatic art. Cheers, RickO

    I own a coin that was photographed by three different photographers. When I get home I'll put up the images. The difference between the three is interesting.

    Please tell us which one best represents the coin.

    This one John (@messydesk) used in his 2023 calendar.

    That's a very photogenic coin, which is a good trait to consider when buying a coin, since a photo will likely be integral in selling it.

    This was taken by Jermy @airplanenut many years ago, he is also very skilled. This template was provided by a forum member but I do not recall who off hand.

    Was it spacemonkey?

    Very attractive SH and that green is a rare bird. I’ll get in line to be the next owner!?

    It could have been, it has been at least ten years ago that I started to put some of my photos into this template.

    Well, this thread has probably about run its course, but here, finally, are the three photos. I have not modified the source images, but I did crop them and add the same shadow effect to all three:

    If anyone can guess the photographers correctly, I'll be impressed:

    Which do I think represents the coin the best? Probably all of them. :)

    Looks like @TomB, PCGS, and you. That's a wild guess :lol:. Really nice example though, the color looks exceptional.

    @BryceM

    I'm with @FlyingAl on the 2nd being a TV

    Interesting too is I guess it's been in two holders, so the order in which they were taken is 3, 2, 1

    As for the other two photographers, not sure, but all three are very good mages. My guess is the first is a little green, the TV a little red (typical) and the third a little blue. Best focus and angle for detail seems to be the first, by a hair.

    @FlyingAl , @pursuitofliberty

    The photographers were me, PCGS, and @TomB

    In this case, I think Tom and I did a better job than PCGS, but I can show examples where the opposite is true too. Really, that they generate that kind of quality with the volume of coins they shoot is pretty impressive.

    I shot this one tonight, reminds me of Christmas lights.

    I didn't want to post to your question as I kind of had some inside information! I agree that PCGS does a fabulous job given their volume and that they are often absolutely superb shots.
