Eye Appealing Colonial Coins Do Exist
Well, these are appealing to my eye, anyway...a couple from the current collection and a couple I've owned in the past. For those that collect colonials, what are your most eye appealing pieces?

I don't own them any longer, but in my experience the Massachusetts cents and half-cents were often made to a higher standard than many other coins of this era. In combination with the Native American motif, the better initial production quality could make them quite appealing.

I don't know why. I'll have to change that.

I would concur with your eye appeal assertion with those examples! They are great!
I only own what I consider an eye appealing Fugio example and I'm not sure if that is officially known as a colonial?

Here's a few, although the color is not always original.
Noe 1 Pine Tree Shilling. This has long been the "poster child" variety among Pine Tree Shillings. This one had some re-coloring done to it, but the price was lower as a result.
This is my best piece of Mass. silver, a Pine Tree six pence. The off-center strike doesn't bother me. All of the pieces that are this variety appear to be that way.
A Hibernia half penny
A 1736 Pillar Type 1 reale.
A Mint State Massachusetts half cent
A Virginia half penny, which is a better than average piece from the hoard.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?19 -

One of my very favorite coins- I lost it at auction and had to track it down on the floor at FUN- found it keeping company with Tony Terranova and had a nice chat with him- an effort (and a few bucks) well spent in my opinion!

@Zoins as I recall, that error Fugio went for a pretty penny! I drooled over that too, but out of my league due to cost. Do you remember the final bid?

There is a charm with an ugly design as I find the Matron Head large cent Ms Liberty to be unattractive as well. Yet I want to buy one at some point!

Some beautiful colonials here for sure. @MidLifeCrisis that is a gorgeous Pine Tree Shilling. Always hoped I would find one of those locally while MD'ing... Certainly possible in the area I live... But no luck so far. Cheers, RickO

Since foreign coin types that circulated in the US have been included, here is a recent acquisition that I think is a very pretty coin, mainly because of the portrait. A 6400R from Brazil.

Growing up in NJ, I had my eye on an NJ copper since I first started collecting in grade school and three were in the display case at my local shop for years. Maybe it's sentimental, but I've always liked the design, and even with decent wear, I still think the design is attractive. By the time I had the funds to buy an example, my tastes improved and my desired quality continually outgrew my budget. It took 13 years or so, but I bought this at the Baltimore show the weekend after I graduated college.
At some point I'd like to get a higher grade example, but I think this one is great for what it is, not to mention the stories it could tell.

IMHO there are no unappealing Colonial coins.
Everyone has charm and grace, which is appealing, no matter their shape.3 -
It sold for a strong $55,200. As a double struck, it's not in the $100k range, but still very strong and very lovely coin.

It's lower grade, but one of the most appealing coins at that level of preservation. The strike is hard, no real planchet flaws. Nice hard surfaces. Good color. Of the three Fugios I own, this is the most appealing, though not the highest grade.

Here's a colonial foreign coin I wanted, but I was too late at CRO. These come nice, but it's still hard to find them this nice.
