I was never expecting to see this coin at my local coin show that I attended yesterday. Been on my list since I started collecting Flying Eagle and Indian head cents. I am now the new owner. Photos are not the best because this coin faces up much nicer in hand. This was a once in a lifetime for me.

Great coin - congrats! The eagle immediately draws the eye as it should! If this was a guess the grade, I definitely would have guessed higher than 63!

Beautiful coin. Impressive. It may not make a 64 because of the anomalies in the fields but that would be the big step up in value. The CAC helps. If you could get Rick Snow to sticker it, that would be a huge value adder to Eagle/Indian collectors. Congratulations.

Anyway, what would be the advantage for a photo seal from Rick Snow's Eagle Eye cert, if there's already a green bean CAC sticker on the holder? It seems redundant and the CAC sticker trumps the photo seal pretty much anyway, right?

I can't speak to the FE group, but I think the PCGS/CAC combo has you covered. I can't imagine a huge advantage to getting a Eagle Eye at this point, but that's up to you of course.

Rick Snow, for years, has been the absolute authority on Flying Eagle and Indian Head cents. I would much rather see his photo seal sticker on the slab than CAC. I wouldn't be crazy about sending that baby through the mail, though. Perhaps you can have him take a look and sticker it at a coin show if you're interested.

Sorry for the double. Thanks for your comments. I think it’s going to stay as is for now as I have no plans to flip or sell. I’m still shaking my head and wondering how I ever even have this special coin in my possession! Maybe down the road, I will have it looked at by Rick Snow.
Next, you should see what variety you have. Rick has assigned "S numbers." I forget which one it is, but one is classified as a business strike. Handed out to Congressmen as a sort of pattern for the eventual flying eagle cents of 1857.

First of all, congratulations on obtaining a coin with super eye appeal.
Yes, having both stickers on a coin is indeed a LOT of redundancy. And yes, “the market” recognizes greater value in the CAC sticker than in the Eagle Eye Photo Seal. BUT with that said, understand that while CAC and Rick each has the goal of identifying coins that are solid for the grade (they fully agree with each other that there are a lot of coins NOT solid for the grade), they each subjectively assign different “weights” than each other for the various factors that determine a coins grade, such as surface marks, strike quality, luster, die state, amount of carbon/flecks permitted for a grade, etc.
I too collect Flying Eagles and Indian Head Cents. I’ve found that a VERY large part of the time they will each sticker the same coin. But in searching for coins for my collection, I’ve sometimes found coins with a CAC sticker that Rick will not sticker, and coins with a Photo Seal that CAC will not sticker. Having BOTH stickers on a coin is having the BEST of BOTH WORLDS!
While I believe Rick will let you know at a show when he sees your coin if it will Photo Seal, he will NOT do it there. With your permission, he will take it back to his shop, apply the Eagle Eye Photo Seal, take three photos of your coin (Slab Obverse, close up obverse, and close up reverse) for his website that all can access by plugging in the cert #, like a True View (and you can easily upload each photo too), and then prepare the plasticized card for you showing the obverse slab photo with BOTH stickers. He does all of this for just $15. And if your coin does NOT Photo Seal? No charge. Obviously, you pay for shipping.

I now agree with you that having Rick Snow in addition to green bean adds different, but added value. Thank you for the invite to your exhibit but attending large shows is pretty much out for me. By the way, I do own a photo seal of an 1857 flying eagle S-16 variety
