Which of these $5 Indians should I sell?

PeakRaritiesPeakRarities Posts: 4,858 ✭✭✭✭✭

I picked up these two $5 Indians for a price I couldn't refuse. They're both 63 CAC, one will fill the hole in my type set for now, and one will get sold. Coin 1 has 3 different hits protruding from the mouth and chin area, otherwise pretty clean face. Coin 2 has a bigger hit on the upper lip with a smudge in the field, and a little hit on the brow. Both reverses have assorted hits and chatter in the fields, nothing noteworthy. Luster is pretty similar on both. I'm just curious on what the consensus is for the less desirable coin. This is the best I could do with my iPhone camera-

I voted to sell #2. Personally I could live with #1 more than with the big hit on #2's lips.

I'd part with #2, not a hard call. The hits on #1 don't draw the eye nearly as much as those two glaring lines near the chief's lips on #2.

I would consider selling number two. However if you let me set the price I would buy all five. LOL

I didnt pay as much attention to the hits, as they are hard to see here but the overall look of #1 is better to me so I voted out 2.

Lip hit is obvious quickly. The other one isn't so obvious even after I spotted it.

I chose #2 to sell, and after voting I see that most agree. I think #1 looks a little better overall.

That's about as close to equal as two different coins get.

I don't think it necessarily matters which you sell in this case.

What about selling both and using that to get a 64 or 64+?

I did say "for now" in reference to the hole in my type set :#

Lets see how it goes for the first one, if it fetches a high enough price on gc ill be forced to sell the other, as I don't "love" either of the coins

That was the feeling I got from your write up. It didn't sound like you really liked either one. Good luck at GC. They received a number of coins from me last Wednesday and I am still waiting for them to process the consignment.

Woops! I goofed up my vote. I would sell the lip hit because that mark would get my nerves and impair my enjoyment of the coin.

Hate to be a contrarian, but #2 looks livelier to me, luster, etc..

Yes, depending on the sale price of the first one I may just sell both. If I spend 64cac money it has to be a stunner though. I only bought these because they were priced around 2/3 of price guide value, I never saw the coins in person and the photos weren't good enough to grade. I was hoping one of them would be an "A" coin but they both seem to be "B"s
