Here's another one that is pretty heavily toned. Luster is unbroken and pops though, but the right obverse near the rim is as close to terminal toning as I care to play with.
This one is in an old ANACs holder and has a heavy patina. Maybe the old holder had something to do with the toning? I have at least one other coin with similar toning though its not in one of these holders.
Toned coins are like ex-girlfriends, very unique and attractive, sometimes kind of crazy sometimes kind of cool but once there gone sometimes you actually miss them. I never should have let the 66 getaway :'(
That's a really attractive coin but is a classic silver commemorative, not a half-cent.
The error was a deliberate one. The deep red-brown patina on the Lincoln commemorative half looks like it was made from copper. Here's the unedited TruView that more closely resembles the coin in hand under indirect light rather than the edited "glamour shot" I provided to show off its color.
A truly unexpected gift from someone I assisted in life...they didn't even know I was a collector and returned later to give me this. True story.
It's brown like beautiful shoe polish and I find it absolutely gorgeous.
