What does “Promote” mean in the “Reaction” portion of our Profiles/Activity?

When you click on the hotlink of your “handle”, it brings you to a page that near the top has “Reactions”, followed by four categories - Promote, Agree, Like, and LOL.

For me, my “Promote” number is 0. Does that mean I’m not entitled to a promotion, lol? In all seriousness though, not that it matters, but how does one get a reaction for that “Promote” category?

OK, I did some research. CU is using Vanilla Forums as the software package. The promote works (when configured) as an upvote, basically. Think like a standard Disqus forum. The more ups you get the more you're promoted. The opposite would be spams in vanilla speak for downvotes. The fact that a few people have promote probably means when this particular board was setup (or perhaps when being modified) someone got a button that activated the promote score. Could have been the Like or it could have been something else.

The whole idea is to force better content towards the top, or a special highlight area, when the user is sorting by most upvoted. Again, like the default view of Disqus and others. You can read some about it on their page.

AspieRocco has a thread at the top or sticky topic but also has a promote of 0.

I don't know what about that thread did it but for all the others (agree, like, lol) when you click them you get a list of the threads with those. So it just seems like when you click the promote and it brings up that one thread that it would have something to do with that thread. But then I don't know this so it could be a programming hiccup.

Here is a list of PCGS social accounts and I think if you promote these links on the web or maybe even other links that just promote coin collecting. We will see if I end up with a promote for posting the links here.... I'm not sure how it works.

I just noticed that for 1630boston's Promote that the referenced post is the first post of the thread which has no external references or links. Hmm....

Yes, from Jackie Gleason's "The Honeymooners"!!!!!!! EDIT - @Maywood is correct below, when he says that Horned Water Buffalo hat is from the Flintstones. I erred when I said it was from "The Honeymooners". That was a Racoon hat, from the Racoon Lodge, lol.

I'm not sure if a bot or the system will pick it up or if a moderator needs to notice the post and give you the point.
There is a fair chance that is is given by Mod and that is why we see soo few of them, the Mod needs to notice the post.

So what happened to the post saying they looked into the forum software and what it ran off of and that the Promote appeared to have to do with promoting a thread or post to get the best to the top. Then had a link for more information. Must have hit to close to something and got deleted.

Since I am the one that posed the question (I clicked the option of “Ask a Question” when I created the post, instead of “New Discussion”), each time someone replied, the system provides me with the choice of “Yes” or “No” if that reply answered my question. Regarding the reply that you mention, I believe that reply did indeed answer my question. As such, when I checked the “Yes” choice, the system automatically moved his reply up to the top of this post, just under my original post.

Take a look - it’s there!

I think when you reach 1,000 posts, they’ll promote you to a “Master Collector”, or something like that, and then give you the fifth star. However, the rules of the forum are when you get your fifth star, you then have to have a giveaway on this forum, and the prize must be significant!

I’ll keep an eye on you, and remind you when that happens.

Ok, I’ll try again! Maybe it’s when you get 1,000 points they’ll grant you that very special fifth star.
