Mine was admittedly a bit of a panic buy from the good folks at HLRC, just after PCGS reclassified it as the first regular-issue federal coin (I didn’t want to get priced out from owning a nice example). Time will tell whether it was a sensible or terribly informed decision.
I love that the first federal coin is still collectible even in UNC, thanks to the famous Bank of New York hoard…which is still holding something like 900 coins. This one is a Newman 13-X, which I believe is the most common variety, and almost certainly originated from the NY hoard.

Got this on the BST looooooooooooong ago. I should probably get a nicer one at some point, but it's nice to have a piece of history like this that I can just hold and appreciate.

@Floridafacelifter - I looked up the cert number and the auction history. Any info on the Laird U. Park Collection provenance? Does the holder still have that reference on it?

And Laird Park had a tremendous collection of early coins- auctioned by Stacks in 1976- here’s a link to the auction catalog

MS64BN …this coin was in my possession for a short period of time…i truly regret selling it…much redder than the photo reveals….it was TRULY a Bank of NY hoard coin…i purchased it as a framed piece with a “letter” to a Duetches Bank exec in 1973 as a memento from NY Bank hoard.4 -
