in 2014, this was a cool $250k

Looking it up at first I thought not much to go on. But then noticed an AU55 sold also in 2014 for 282K (without cac) and then in Jan 2022 (same one with cac) for 336K. That would indicate only a 20% increase. But in any auction if two go at it then who knows.

that's how i feel about all of numismatics. the stuff runs deep.
those that don't/won't get into it, really just have no idea. when someone says they are the metallic footsteps to history, that pretty much says it all, for me.
a study/collection of various US assayer pieces, even non-coins, i'm sure would be quite a journey.
I bought the one out the heritage auction last week. It’s in an ngc XF details holder, but sometimes that’s the best one can do.

also, yesterdays cleaned xf details, bent, corroded is tomorrows unnamed stickered vf35, no?
I don’t have many details coins, but I am not afraid of owning them when I don’t have a better choice.

Wow. Assuming that 70-CC straight graded since it's such a rare and valuable piece. Kind of like the Dexter 1804 dollar.
Not often I see ultra-rarities posted on here. But any one is very much a worthy one.

The 2022 Red Book says it’s worth $350,000. That’s probably not far off.
Templeton Reid was the first of the Georgia private gold minters. Most of his coins were melted because of questions about their purity. Owning an example would certainly represent a piece of history, but it’s a bit beyond my budget.
On a different note, I wonder if that 1875-CC double dime is the same one I saw in the Auction ‘82 sale? According to a dealer who was sitting beside me at the sale, that piece had been posted and “bought in” a several auctions at the time. It “sold” for around $20,000 at that sale.
I believe that my 1876 cc 20c is the one your saw in 1982. I have it’s province back to the 1930’s.
