The North End is a neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts It has the distinction of being the city's oldest residential community, where Europeans have continuously inhabited since it was colonized in the 1630s. Though small, only 0.36 square miles, the neighborhood has nearly one hundred establishments and a variety of tourist attractions. It is known for its Italian American population and Italian-themed restaurants.

To start off this Friday, here is a momento from the school that brought us this year's NCAA Tournament Champions this week:

FWIW, I picked it up on a visit to the campus of Kansas University for an Explorer Scout Conference.

The visit was particularly memorable as it was the first and only time I saw a tornado. As the bus rolled into Lawerence, Kansas there was a twister swirling in the distance.

At the Explorer Scout Conference I was asked to report on the role of the Explorer Scouts in providing assistance to the Civil Defense efforts immediately after that same year's 1964 Good Friday Earthquake. Below are several of the photos I had taken that were included in my slide show presentation. Two of the Explorer Scouts providing assistance as we delivered incoming Ham Radio messages are pictured in the center photo:

Pedestrian Swinging Bridge In Maine

Located above the Androscoggin River between Topsham and Brunswick, the Androscoggin Swinging Bridge was built in 1892 to allow workers at the Cabot Mill to cross over the river. While it might look like a simple small-town bridge, it actually boasts a very famous maker. The Androscoggin Swinging Bridge was built by John A. Roebling’s Sons Company, who is responsible for the construction of the world-famous Brooklyn Bridge in New York City!

Though the bridge has been repaired a few times over the years, and many parts have been replaced, the cables are original to the 19th-century structure.
