One summer afternoon back in 1961 a photographer on Long Island took a photograph of a lake for a postcard.
Fast forward to now and a friend of mine sees that very postcard posted in a Facebook group for that lake and promptly forwards it to me knowing how much growing up on the lake meant to me.
What my friend hadn't realized was that the image taken that sunny summer day shows me standing alongside the row boat with my younger and my (late) older both sitting in it...

A picture of the best friend I’ve ever had. This is Buddy and he’s been with me for 13 years. He is a Rat terrier that has become part of me. He never leaves my side.
This is Beaumont. He is Buddy’s father. This guy is now 16 years old and is a solid trooper. He loves life and I can see him go for another 6 years or so. This dog has a true will to live. He is a very happy and healthy dog.
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
Amber Smith is a former Army helicopter pilot who did tours in Iraq and Afghanistan before returning to school eight years ago to get an advanced degree and begin her own firm consulting on veterans and national security affairs.
