All these CBH Threads - Here's one of my NEWP's

When Sheridan first put this up on his site early last summer, I considered it. I gave it a glance at the Summer ANA and took a few notes, but ended up spending on some earlier dates and a few lesser coins, and let it pass by. Over time I forgot, as I figured it was gone.
Then I got blown out in MB #53, landing one coin, but losing out on two I wanted (but just got run over on). I went back to his fixed price list to see if there was anything, as being in CA, I wanted to get over the Sales Tax hump.
Oh, my ... that 28-107 is still there. Hmmm. Tough coin (all 1828 Curl 2's with Knob are tough) and a variety I need for the Red Book Set portion of my CBH collection. Hmm, Hmmm, Hmmmmmm.
I had Lance send the big LanceView's (man it's good to have friends!), and we had conversations about what we thought before I asked Sheridan to send it along.
Sometimes I think we have to let a coin grow on us. She grew on me!
She has a few marks and whispy's, which are slightly accentuated with her hard semi-PL fields, but she has an attractive color and a handsome presence.
GTG, let me know your thoughts, and if you have one, show us your 1828, Curl 2's

That bird has some sharp talons..
I'm guessing 55 ?
Shamefully, I rarely peruse much above 1820/19 or else I'd already know the grade most likely 🥴
58
One of mine…
AU58. Nice coin!
Wow, Todd!
You picked a beauty for sure. I already happen to know the grade so I won’t guess, but I will say that I think she looks excellent for the grade!
Definitely a tougher Red Book variety in my opinion, and one of only two 1828’s with the Curl base Knob 2, the other being the O.106, out of 23 different die marriages for the year.
Great coin!
Dave
I won’t guess either since I looked at several times too!
I’ve also been blown out and gone straight to the fixed price list 😂
Beautiful coin.
BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
I love this die marriage. Tougher than it seems. And your example looks splendid. Very handsome.
I overpaid for mine years ago but I'll keep her until something nicer comes along. I may wait a while.
Lance.
I recently sold my O.107 but I do have a O.106 that I’m very happy to have found not long ago.

Wow, you guys have some fantastic coins! I’m a little embarrassed to show mine... but it does have a couple little cracks to make it interesting🤓

Don't be shy Ken! You've shown some great examples and I'm glad you showed another one here!!
That's a wonderful example and a really cool crack!

Mine seems to be missing a leaf…….
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
Very pleasing 55 or 58. Some nice bust halves posted here.
When it comes to CBHs, due to their minting on the steam press, I need to be familiar with the specs of the particular variety and see the coin in hand. Sometimes the hair below LIBERTY is not fully struck, as is the wingtip to the viewer's left on the reverse. Ditto re the motto on some varieties.

Can’t help but admire the coins designs.
I wish we had some of them in our modern coinage.

Kennedys are my quest...
For those who are curious, the coin is graded AU58 by our hosts.
I don't totally agree with the grade but I don't disagree with it either ... which was all part of my initial hesitation. In my opinion, she could go either way ... from a 55 to a 58. As I am a bit conservative I probably would've have given her a 55.
But then, how many nice attractive, mostly original, hard surface, semi-PL 28-107's are there in AU53+ to 58 (my preferred grade range)? Probably not very many, but at least one, and I made her mine.
