The Wilhelm is a really tough '61. This card had been on Ebay for a few years at the same price. As prices have come up and with an Ebay bucks promotion, it finally made sense for me to add to my '61 HOF set. In the few years it has been listed I have not found any that are nicer. 13 left (was down to 12 before Hodges and Minoso were elected).
As a Cubs fan have always liked the '62 Santo.
I thought these 71s were really sharp - they are from a set a dealer was breaking.
A fun RPPC that captures a night to remember that took place almost 71 years ago in New York City, NY. I'm no ace in dating these nor do I think it's going to pay for a beach house but by all accounts it ceratinly seems period-1950's; and honesty, with some cards it's hard to explain their draw and you just like them because you like them, right? This is one of those. Anyhow, Toots Shor and his bar are legendary in the world of NYC sports so it's no surprise that the games all time greatest players would gather together there. Sadly, two period Yankees icons, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, were already and tragically gone but the men pictured who assembled that day - Cy Young, Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby and Mel Ott to name a few - were the living icons who had helped to cement the game of baseball into the collective consciousness of America, making this very old postcard also quite a special one for this city kid...

I picked up the Purple Star at a show last week and bought the silver through a private sale both are numbered to 50. I believe Burrow will be one of those QB's we look back 20 years from now and say he's one of the greatest of all time.

I’m old school; I’ve always been. My parents said I was born old and have called me ‘the old man’ ever since I was 4 years old. I’m not opposed to change or anything but I’m not a fan of change for changes sake. And I know how the sport of basketball works inside and out. So when I hear people talk ‘LeBron or Jordan’ as the goat, I have to chuckle a little. It’s not that they’re not great players - they most certainly are. But I’m not sure you’ll ever see another player win eleven titles in thirteen seasons, capture five MVP awards or completely dominate the game from the defensive side of the ball. No one ever correlates the two - the best defensive player of all time also being the winningest - but maybe they should; offense is about skill, defense is about will. Whether it was blocking shots to himself that became offensive fast breaks, the multiple 40 rebound games or the fact that he scored more than his 17 PPG average once the playoffs started, the Don of Dons from the University of San Francisco changed the game forever as a Boston Celtic, making it all the more amazing to me that he only has three cards issued during his playing days: his 1957 Topps rookie, the ‘In Action’ card from the same set as the base card below and the aforementioned base card…

@rexvos.... someone is looking for over 3k for this card on ebay currently..... crazy ask ~ maybe at some point in the distant future ~ heritage has plenty of opportunities with their refractors and retrofractors in the 2000's..... some nice upside IMO. I did snag the Kershaw RC in the real one auto several years ago for real cheap in a PSA 10..... I wish I had gotten the Red INK as well.... I could have but was light on cash at the time.

I always thought this guy looked like a great ball player. I always expected him to be better than he really was. Same goes for John Milner. They both have that great ballplayer look.

The latest '84 Topps Tiffany pickup.........Eddie Murray with his 500 homers and 3000 hits plus ~ 1 of 6 players to ever accomplish the feat... Aaron, Murray, Pujols, A-rod, Palmeiro and The "Say Hey Kid"..... Will A-Rod and Palmeiro ever get into the HOF ? At some point in the distant future I would bet YES.......Pujols is a slam dunk 1st ballot selection barring a Jose Canseco revelation with vials, photos and fingerprints..... this Tiffany is JUST a _POP. 7 _in PSA 10 ...
Just cruising along for a bit here. Nothing earth shattering but I really, really, really like finding cards like the TJ. The low-mid grade card that looks great. Been a Watters fan since his freshman year at ND in 87 and I like the 99/99 for the Crown Royale.
Few pieces of crap from our travels yesterday to add to the hoard.
First up a couple items from our local Marden's discount store.
They had a section where white tagged items were 90% off.
Paid $2.45 and this sells around $30.
And this was $1.60 and looks to be selling for $16 to $20.
And spotted this stuff at Wally World.
I assume they had just recently put out a case as one of every figure was on the shelf. They had the Dominik Mysterio which is selling at decent prices on the secondary market (seen sales up to around $60) but not a fan and passed on it.
And a couple shirts for $1.50 each. One to wear and one to add to my shirt collection.
Well, it's obviously off center and I know that would be a deal breaker for many collectors. But other than that? This is a really, really beautiful specimen. And while even I typically prefer centered cards, this card was just too affordable and too sharp in every other way to leave it for someone else to grab.

Ronnie Hawkins - Ronnie Hawkins (G+ due to scratch side 1 track 2 causing loud click otherwise plays VG to VG+)
Johnny Tilotson - Talk Back Trembling Lips (VG (seller graded VG+) plays well but noticeable clicks throughout but still very listenable. Label variation not listed on Discogs)
The Dovells - Biggest Hits (VG fairly clean some pops and clicks here and there MONO not listed on Discogs)
Roy Orbison - The Best Of Roy Orbison (VG (seller graded VG+) very light crackle, loud clicks here and there)
Billy Joe Royal - Down In The Boondocks (VG light scuffs/scratches plays well with some noise in quiet sections. Pressing not listed on Discogs)
Orange Groove - Crystal Blue Persuasion And Other Sounds Of Today (VG- decent sound but pops and clicks)
Herman's Hermits - Both Sides Of Herman's Hermits (G (seller graded VG+) 3/4 inch deep scratch side 2 track 6 causing loud click. Rest of album plays with light crackle throughout)
Sha Na Na - The Golden Age Of Rock N Roll VG (seller graded VG+) light crackle throughout. No poster. Label variation not listed on Discogs)
At The Hop (A Collection Of Classic Oldies) - Various (VG light scuffs and scratches with light noise throughout. Gold stamped PROMO)
Fonzie Favorites - Various (G lots of scuffs and scratches causing lots of crackle during play)
I'm a cheapskate (I admit it) so this lot was a little more than what I usually would go for on eBay but at just a tad under $2 per record it was a great deal. Seller wasn't too far off with her assessment of what she saw (I grade by both visual and play) but did miss the nasty scratch on the Herman's Hermits album. Fully understandable given the amount of records she is listing and we had a great conversation on a couple subjects last night. I love being able to buy a wide range of stuff online but you do miss out on that personal interaction.
The Fonzie Favorites I actually had a copy way back in the 70's. Think I sold it at a yard sale in the 80's. Covers in decent shape and might pick up a frame for it and hang it on the wall. Guess it could go along side this one.
Just made an interesting discovery on the Ronnie Hawkins album. I cleaned side one and was converting it to digital and as normal I was monitoring it during the process. Had a few clicks during playback and wanted to take a closer look. During the cleaning and getting a better look at things I noticed the vinyl has a brown color instead of black. Looked closer and saw a red spot so shined a light under it.
I can't get the brown to show but this is generally what you see with regular light.
And here is what I discovered.
Translucent red (almost what you would describe as blood red). Did a search and see no mention of this anywhere and nothing mentioned on Discogs.
This isn't a new card in my collection but it is a lottery ticket. Panini Chronicles Football is one of the most schizo products. It is basically a mish mash of rookie cards from all Panini base-mid high brands. There are a lot of parallels and I have a tough time identifying them. I pulled out the Burrows from my stash to list on ebay and I was about to list the card below for $35 since I thought it was a base Chronicles Select card. It didn't particularly stick out to me since it wasn't super shiny. When I scanned the back, I noticed is was a 6/10 Gold Prizm Parallel! This will be going to PSA with the next shipment.

2008 Topps Heritage Chrome Max S. Rookie...... low pop. 13.........I'd love to find his "refractor" parallel. Both are plenty tough.
