More Homemade Albums

Thanks for the comments everyone! I'll get around to posting the interiors of the other books in a bit. I would absolutely love to sell these books and will certainly entertain private inquiries for the moment! Just know that they are homemade and assembled by hand. Anyone that's familiar with some of the shows in New England will find me browsing the tables or even set up with a few of the books with me.

I definitely plan on marketing them in some form! I've met enough collectors that have wanted specialized books in some form and would like to cater to them. I've begun setting up a website where such ordering will be possible.

If you'd like some critique on the half dime set composition:

• 1837 large date (seated) before 1837 small date (seated). The large date punch was carried over from the 1837 bust.
• 1849 9/6 -> 9 / Far 6

• 1849 9/8 -> 9 / Near 6 (9/8 is from old Red Books and has been disproven)

  pressed a little more deeply on some of the dies.

I am glad to see you left out the 1838 "small stars", which has been a source of confusion.

In place of the 1861, you could use a mint mark size variety.
A good one is the 1872-s micro s, as it is only R-3.
The 1850-o small o is another good one, which is somewhat available, even though none are known in mint state.
Another option could be the 1872 DDO (V-6), which is not rare.

I like this. The beauty of doing a custom book is being able to choose which coins to pursue, how to label them, etc. When I get my website going, collectors will be able to choose what specific coins they want to put into their album, varieties included or not.

You might be interested in another project I have been setting up which will cater towards your idea. For the last few years, I've been assembling a listing of the Mint's output year by year starting with 1793 and running up to the present, and photographing the various date/mintmark combos along the way. This will be a part of my website and collectors will be able to order books dedicated to specific years.

I agree! Dansco, Whitman, and several of the other manufacturers have made curious and sometimes critical omissions in their books. One such omission that always bothered me was on "complete" books that, for example, were Washington Quarters, 1932-1998 with Proofs, and the first slot for a Proof coin was dated 1968-S when in reality there should be Proof slots going back to 1936. Lincoln Cents might be an even worse example since most of the Wheat cent proofs cost less than the 09-S V.D.B. and in most of the books I've seen the proofs don't start until 1975.
