Silver Jackpot!

KliaoKliao Posts: 5,784 ✭✭✭✭✭

Went to my local bank today and scored a silver jackpot! I Originally was trying to get quarters and asked if they had any halves. The teller had $140 worth, so I took them too. As soon as he pulled them out of his safe, I got really excited. He had run out of paper wrappers for 5 rolls and tapped 20 of them together and I could clearly see the edges of the rolls. It was hard to contain my excitement as I saw 5 solid rolls of silver sitting on the counter! Apon closer inspection, 1 roll was short a coin (no biggie) and 4 had one clad coin each which makes 95 total silver coins!!!!

When I got home and opened up the other 9 rolls of halves, 2 more rolls were solid silver!!!!

In total I scored 135 40% silver halves. My best score ever. I've seen these types of hauls on YouTube but never expected it to happen to me at my local bank. Typing this a few hours after the score and I'm still shaking.

Enough of this, here are the pictures.

Just sorted them by year. Not sure if anyone's interested but here is the spread of years. Surprisingly no 1965's in the whole group.

    1966 - 6
    1967 - 59
    1968 - 48
    1969 - 22

Time to get variety searching :)

1-I have never had more than 20% of the run of luck with roll searching that you just had.
    2-Especially in today's market.
3-Most likely some poor old collector's collection taken to the bank by their heirs or without their knowledge.
4-Congrats on a fantastic pick up.

I’m sure our YN is having a good laugh because I don’t think he was born.
It does bring back good memories of finding silver 😉
Speaking of looking for silver. Who here still checks the silverware at flea market ,yard sale ,etc for.925 sterling hallmarks. I do and that’s the most productive way. Amazing how much my box of miscellaneous sterling flatware and such keeps growing. It’s still a silver mine that’s active 😉

I know a few tellers who've told me they buy stuff like that at face. Depending on how well I knew the employee, I might ask who deposited them. Maybe call a cop buddy too and ask if there have been any recent collections stolen in the area.
Then, once I satisfied my curiosity, they'd end up at my buddy's shop or eBay.
If it were a random bank, I guess I'd enjoy my luck, congrats! :)

Because they are the 40% silver type I would advise selling them for silver value and using the money to add one nice item to your collection.

    A great find!

Great idea! I'll see what I can do.

I was able to purchase a platinum eagle from a member here and add it to my collection. I have my eye on a couple coins I may pull the trigger on or use the proceeds to essentially pay for the platinum eagle I bought.
