Amazing 1802 Dollar Error
The owner found this in his “very old family coin collection” so I’m sure it’s genuine. I think the $975 shipping cost is a bit excessive, unless he plans to personally deliver the coin anywhere in the USA.

The posted one matches the diagnostics of mine and other known counterfeits. I actually wrote a Coin Week article on this "family" of fakes...

1) It looks like a fake
2) The price is way, way, way off if real, which it is not.
3) A real coin would be in a TPG1 -
I have also seen a 1796 half cent over struck on a cut-down large cent planchet. Country of origin was Asia; time struck was at least 2 centuries after the date shown on the disk of metal.

MSG is used in a lot of food not just Chinese food. It is in many things you buy at the supermarket including soup and peanut butter.

The hand thrown making of a coin in the 18th century would only produce "errors" like these if they were done deliberately. Why would a mint employee do it? The US mint was less than a decade old and error coins were not a thing. Collecting US coins was not a thing. That thinking did not exist.... Making good, struck large coin was hard enough and very very crude compared to today. An off center coin would be more likely and to spare the waste of a nice silver disk, would be put in the stack.
