technically I think it's an EF but with the nice toning I'd say it got an AU-50, but I would grade it an ef40 or ef45.

No plus from me, I see 53, and I know @ricko will be very very disturbed with this one :#

P.S. unless this is super looking in hand, and your photo skills have seriously deteriorated significantly today :D

Normally I wouldn't take pictures on a day like today because I use a mix of natural and incandescent light. It's dark and cloudy today. Because of that I'm not showing the nice underlying luster. This would be a good one for rotating video.

I'll guess AU50. Neat 1895. Looks original, but not really the type of toning I prefer.

Although a bump up in an MS grade (such as MS63 to MS64) is possible, if a coin has the wear of an XF PCGS will not award the AU grade no matter how nice the surfaces or toning.

Wow, I’m surprised by the EF guesses! Surely this coin is a solid AU? I was actually thinking 55 or above.

Good to know and I'm glad to hear that as I'm not a fan of bumping up a grade for toning (or luster).

Curious...I might try doing a video with my phone. Can that be uploaded to the site without a supporting sight like youtube or the like? My pictures really don't do this coin justice.

An XF45 downgraded to XF40 because of excessive marks for the grade. The toning tends to hide the many marks.

Enough wear to make me question this high of a grade, but I think it might be a 53 (or maybe a 50)

My gut was that the wear is pretty light and lustre seems decent. 53 is somewhat of an oddball grade, but that’s what came to mind, so that’s my guess.

You are seeing the same thing I am. The mark by "LIBERTY" kind of bothers me. Surfaces should be cleaner for the piece to be called XF-45, in my opinion. Besides, the band below "LIBERTY" is not complete. That alone should disqualify this 1895 Philly issue from XF-45 consideration. Sticking with XF-40 for this one.
