Good Old Guess The Grade Thread

One of my favorite coins, purchased from forum member stone many moons ago. Loved the clashing, color and bleeding of the obverse into the rims. I have strange likes I guess, let me know what you think and I'll let you know what our hosts think tomorrow evening. Thanks!!

Many clashes and off center clashes at that. I will guess AU55. Beautiful coin

I’m going with AU 50 the field on obverse infront of the nose The ear. The wear on cap but wow for the activity above the date!! Really nice. I must contemplate some more 🤔
It’s really calling to me. Like I want to behold it just because 😉 it’s cool 😎

That is an interesting coin with a lot going on. I actually like it. For grade, it looks nice with plenty of luster but not MS. I will guess the grade at AU55. Overall a nice keeper coin, I really like that strong clashing on the obverse.

That is a very cool coin! I have not seen clashing so pronounced before. My guess is 58.

    I agree with AU 55.

Stone got banned many years ago, unfortunately. He wrote a book and maintains a numismatic website, if I'm not mistaken.

As to the coin, I'll award it a 62.

It could just be my phone, but how is the luster in hand? The color also looks like secondary toning. Cleaned and retoned? I’ll guess AU details cleaned shot AU55.

That's a great looking Capped Bust!

1813 O-110 with great color and clashing, I'm going to guess PCGS graded her as a 55

Softly struck because of the die state. Especially obverse.

    Amazing clashing.

Reverse looks MS, cannot get a read on luster, love the color.

Really cool coin, even without the toning. Man, how many times did they clash these poor dies?

Looks high AU to me, likely bumped up for gorgeous eye appeal and for just being so darn cool. The rims are a little rough. Say AU55/58, but I could be way off. The toning is making it hard to evaluate the surfaces for me.

This is a coin I’d buy even if I didn’t “need” it for a set.

110 and extreme in its spectacularness! 🤯
I'm seeing it as a 62 or 63, although this a classic late state that often gets undergraded... so probably 58.

Even this VF 30 is probably under graded..

Wow, I love the toning and have similar tastes in a lot of mine. I will say AU-58 hopefully, strong coin.

Soley by the wear, I’m gonna say between AU50 and 53, but if I had to choose one, I’ll go with 50!

    Excellent eye appeal though!

My immediate thought was (definitely) AU-something. But after looking at the images a bit longer and seeing all of the AU58 grade guesses, I’m going with MS63+.

Edited to add: I wrote what I did about the AU58 grade guesses because I feel that for problem-free coins, grade guesses generally tend to be on the conservative side. I think that’s because posters would rather chance guessing too low than too high - doing so can give the impression of being more knowledgeable. And if so many posters can get to AU58 so easily, I think professional graders might see the coin as approximately MS63. After all of that overthinking, watch the coin grade lower than (even) AU55!😬

Best not to look at other's opinions or you are following the pack mentality! I have found my 1st gut instinct is usually more accurate than if I study the coin closely and read other's opinions.
