I think PCGS got it wrong on this 70-S "SMALL DATE CENT"

Won this from Great Collections for a hole filler (91-questionable color) untill I can afford a nicer one but after looking at this closer I'm pretty sure it's a Large Date incorrectly labeled as a Small Date (7 below the 0, 9 points to bottom of 7, strong LIBERTY?). What say you?

"A variety attribution that is obviously incorrect. For example, if you had a normal date 1942 Mercury dime, but the PCGS holder showed the coin as a much rarer 1942/1 overdate, this coin would not be covered by the PCGS Guarantee as the date is obviously normal. Another example would be if you had a 1945 Mercury dime with an obviously normal size mint mark, but the PCGS holder showed the coin as a "Micro S." This coin would not be covered by the PCGS Guarantee since the mint mark is obviously normal size."

The difference between the large date and small date is so minor, in my opinion, that I'm surprised the small date shows a premium at all. Don't get me wrong-I'm glad it does as I've cherried more than a dozen each of both the business strikes and the proofs and sold 'em all, many back in the days of Teletrade.
Now the 1960 large and small dates do show a nice difference.

@derryb Shouldn't PCGS have caught it and attributed it correctly? Thats a better question.

Yes, but unfortunately we missed it. We certainly don't sell mislabeled coins on purpose.

Whether a variety is one type or another is not a matter of opinion- it either is or it isn't.
And people wonder why a business like CAC (which addresses matters of opinion) exists.

There is a reason you can cherrypick the small dates, many reputable sellers don't know how to tell the difference.

I would not have caught it. Does that make me disreputable? If I had sold that coin and did not take it back, then you may have a point, but labeling someone "disreputable" because they did not authenticate the 3rd party grading AUTHENTICATION COMPANY seems like you are missing the point of the thread. Mistakes happen, and it does not mean people are dishonest.
I mean, I did catch this one. :-(
I’m struggling through variety submissions with PCGS right now. I’m having to educate them AGAIN. They are not the experts and it’s frustrating that we have to do all of the work for them, they charge an expensive fee and then they still get it wrong.
Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.
I did not say the seller was disreputable. I said a reputable seller such as GC should have caught the mistake. In an earlier post here Ian from GC agrees they should have caught it and made a mistake. I also did not say or imply that the seller was dishonest. I labeled GC a reputable seller because they are a reputable seller and they have demonstrated it to me in the numerous times I have used their services.
I would not have expected you as a seller to catch the mistake until you have proven to me that you are a reputable seller.
