Now, she's making history at the 104th Fighter Wing as the first female fighter pilot in the Wing's 70-year history.

My wife was a freshman and I was a sophomore in high school in 1971 when we started dating. We are now fifty years together, 45 of them married. It wasn't always easy, but we stuck with each other through the good and bad. Fortunately, the bad times were never more than minor annoyances.

Our 50th wedding anniversary is coming up next year. All of our wedding pictures were double exposed (friend of my father-in-law screwed that up) but at least we have some of the reception. Most importantly, we're still married!
First, the waters of Portage Lake with an iceberg that drifted from Portage Glacier:
Views of ready to spawn salmon in the nearby stream along the route to the glacier - having returned to the fresh waters where they were hatched after a three year journey into the Pacific Ocean:
Then it was on to a return to close by Byron Glacier reached after a 1.5 mile hike in and 1.5 mile hike back out. Note the blue ice evidencing the tight packing of the glacial ice which has eliminated air under the weight of centuries of accumulated snow which then has altered the escape of reflected light.
From Portage to the sea water port of Whittier located on the shores of Prince William Sound one drives through the longest roadway automobile tunnel in the United States. At 2.5 miles (we checked it with our odometer) it is half a mile longer than the longest roadway tunnel in the continental United States located on Seattle's Highway 99. (FWIW, the longest railway tunnel in the U.S. is the 7.8 mile Cascade tunnel.) The tunnel from Portage to Whittier is unique in sharing a rail track and a roadway for vehicles.
And of course for us an August visit to Whittier would not be complete without checking out our favorite blueberry picking spot with at least enough berries for tomorrow's blueberry pie:
Then as we depart Whittier a seagull soars overhead as a fishing boat crosses a returning (from the Columbia Glacier) Phillips Glacier Cruise Tour Boat:
And of course for us an August visit to Whittier would not be complete without checking out our favorite blueberry picking spot with at least enough berries for tomorrow's blueberry pie:

A memorial to our "Little Buddy" who died of a massive seizure on June 28, 2021 at the age of 12. I've posted pictures of him here many times. He was a very smart and very loyal dog-one of our very best. My icon changed to the incomplete memorial. The picture looks as if Dylan was posed by a professional. He was not-it was taken by my youngest son.
