Superb Run of Proof Barber Quarters

Many of these were part of the former Denali Collection, a complete set of Barber, dimes, quarters, and halves, all in very high grades and with an eye toward incredible color. At the moment, the Registry shows only 3 complete proof sets. What's your favorite? Post your Proof Barber .25c.

They are lovely. I have nothing to compare 🤓

Pretty amazing colors.

I can't even pick out my least favorite
The 1915 I've posted before. It's Ex. Simpson, and is one of my favorite Barber coins of all time. In hand, with magnification, it reminds me of the old days looking at black light posters, in a ahem, deranged state so to say.
Hard to pick a favorite, they are all lovely.
Wow- superb indeed- what a kaleidoscope of color! The best I can do is a blast white 68+DCAM
Ka Pow! 1898 absolute perfection.....Black and white accepted here Big Guy.
I like the 1915 too, but something about the 1896 with the dramatic obverse vs reverse I find compelling. Of course, they are all wonderful.
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
How on earth were these maintained in this condition for these 105 - 130 years? They obviously must have been in serious collections.
But what storage methods were available to early collectors, pre-plastic tomb, to maintain this condition?
My understanding is that old time collectors stored these in some sort of paper based envelopes, or perhaps they sat in cabinets on felt? In any case, the majority of proofs of this era were scrubbed w/ baking soda, wiped, dipped, and scrubbed again. Even one wipe with a cloth is enough to impart permanent hairlines into the cheek of liberty. Thus the reason you get just a few survivors at the top, with truly pristine surfaces.
I’m partial to the Seated series, but dang those are some nice Barbers
Magnificent, ORIGINAL run of Proofs. Wow. Unbelievable!!!

I think this one might fit in:
There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who do not.
@Floridafacelifter.... WOW!! Now that is one superb Barber quarter...Amazing grade.... Incredible, must have been protectively stored from birth at the Mint. Cheers, RickO
Perfect 1903, @DarkStar Love that coin!
I don't see many 1903's at all, for some reason? Seems like a slightly tougher date with nice original toning.
Definitely the splotchy 1905… 😈
The splotchy 1905 has character! Granted, it won't win the beauty contest, but she's honest and original as the day is long.
That sounds like an awesome pick up line. 😂
The 1905 was indeed my least favorite.
I thought it would be churlish to point that out, especially that early in the thread. Consider my statement whimsically poetic.
I might add that the 1915 is absolutely mesmerizing...

I was surprised that there was no 1913 in the run of Proof quarters. I like this one a lot, which is graded PR-64, but it's not up there with that group.
You will have a much easier time finding attractively toned proof versus business strike Barber coinage, especially the halves.
"Seu cabra da peste,
"Sou Mangueira......."
Are these your coins? If so, congratulations on a nice original set. It is definitely hard to pick a favorite.
P.S. I didn’t say it was ugly and certainly by no means is for the series. I guess I’m just spoiled by the other examples.
No worries @cameonut2011 It's funny, sometimes I can appreciate that 1905 even more than the others....What can't be seen is the intensity of the underlying flash of mirrors, and that 1905 has phenomenal flash under the color. It's actually part of a complete/original proof set I bought from Legend over a year ago.
1909
Very nice set! So are you working on a complete set of proof sets throughout the Barber era?
@cameonut2011 Yes, that's the idea, although I'm focused primarily on the Barber halves at the moment, as I just need a few more to complete that set. Then I suppose I'll turn my attention to the quarters, and dimes.....then backfill the other denominations after that....It's a major undertaking...But I take it one coin at a time, and strive for value and quality, and originality.
