I'll make 1 comment before I take a vacation from this thread.

Credit should be given where credit is due. Most of the contested coins being pictured are from the Srotag collection. Mike Hayes was the Mentor, Coach, and purchasing agent for the majority of the coins. I sold Mike quite a few of them. My 1901-S XF40 Quarter came from this collection and Mike was who found it!

This thread IMHO is for collectors to share pictures of coins in their personal collection with limited exceptions. It should not be allowed for hawking coins for sale whether stated or not. I'm sure all can read between the lines. I wasn't born in a cornfield and I will now begin my vacation.

Another recent newp. This one challenging to obtain taking a lot of fortitude in the acquisition process! I may have gone tooth-and-nail with one of you on this thread (so apologies in advance)... the rare center MM 1895-S quarter in PC40:

My opinion, if people can get together and find a home for a coin no harm done. It is much easier to look at Barbers on the Barber thread with the people who have our common interest. Searching through the entire BST thread hoping for an occasional Barber is cumbersome. Live and let live. Lenny has a great coin eye and his posts are educational for all who partake. Go enjoy your vacation Darrell. It must be hot in Georgia.

Here's a coin that I purchased raw on eBay about 6 years ago:

I scored big on this one. It's NOT for sale.

Could that have been stored in some type of envelope after circulation?
Pop of 23 as of 6/30/21
    VERY nice coin

    VERY nice coin

It is very interesting to see how toning develops on coins. I'm guessing this one was lost in a drawer or a trunk for MANY years without seeing daylight (perhaps stored in an envelope as you speculate). It would have been an amazing experience to find a treasure such as this in it's long term hiding spot.

That quarter looks under graded...unless there is no luster on it at all.
    Great coins as always

@barberkeys Vern, I would be curious to know how favorable CAC would love on that quarter of yours in old holder.

Here's a pair of '98 S Halves from my stash:

The photos of these coins were shot several years ago before learning techniques to pop the luster. I need to find time to reshoot them.

What a great group of 98-S's just posted.

Tim - CAC said green on the 98-S qtr above.

Here's a couple more that recently slid under the camera, PC55 and raw:

I picked up a couple of nice looking common date AU Barber Quarters recently. Here's a 1909:

I won't do anything to upgrade my Registry Set, but I just liked the look of the coin. I know this look is not everyone's cup of tea, but I like that "almost new" look. I'll probably submit it for grading at FUN next week.

Speaking of FUN, is anyone going that follows this thread? I'm pretty sure the 2 people on vacation will be there.

Looks like a nice quarter Jeff, I think you won't do bad in the grading submission.

Here's another raw Quarter that arrived this week, a common 1897:

I think it's a handsome coin. I was hoping it was 58 material, but I don't believe it will make it (my set currently has a 55).

I sure wish this one had a centered "S" MM.

I was at the FUN show all day Thursday and Friday. I spent part of each day manning the BCCS Table and a lot more time wandering the bourse floor. It was great to catch up with Barber friends, including John Frost, Carl Feldman, Dave Earp, and Lenny Rizzo. Also spent time chatting/ purchasing from some of my favorite Barber Coin dealers, including Revik Galstaun (West Coast Coins Oregon), Richard Jaffe (Westmoreland Rare Coins), Liz Coggins, and David Kahn. The bourse was about 2/3 the size of Winter FUN and about 50% larger than a normal Summer FUN. The place was crowded; there were a lot of coins selling. All in all I believe it was a very successful show. I picked up several nice Barbers and traded in several as well. I'm very pleased with my results.

For years my primary focus in coins has been my Barber Half set. Initially the goal was to assemble a nice AU set, but once that became a reality the goal became to obtain a nice AU 58 set. The last upgrade was in 2018 at the FUN show in Tampa. At that time my set consisted of 62- AU 58 coins, 9- AU 55 coins, and 1- AU 53 coin. I don't think I lost interest in the AU 58 Set quest, but rather I decided to deploy funds into other Barber series sets instead (as upgrades would become pricey).

A few months back I decided to sell my substantially complete Morgan Dollar set and redeploy the funds to improve my Barber Half set. The upgrades would be tough to find and EXPENSIVE. I've been selling the Morgan Dollars on eBay a little at a time- it's a slow process but I have picked up some cash. I decided that at this show I was going to put this cash to work upgrading the Half set. My primary focus was the AU 53 1897 S, looking for an AU 58. Back in 2016 there were three 1897 S AU 59 Halves in the market at the same time. As I recall they were being marketed between $8.5K and $9.5K; too rich for my blood. Over the last 5 years most of the moon money AU 58 Barber Halves have dropped in value, some substantially. It turns out the '97 S is one of them.

At the FUN bourse floor on Thursday I spotted a great looking '97 S AU 58 available for $3,500 at West Coast Coins. I just happened to have my AU 53 '97 S with me, as well as some some spare Barber Quarters. I was able to trade in my 53 and the other coins(along with a little cash) and walk away with a new AU 58 1897 S Half:

I'm very pleased with the coin- it looks very original to me.

    I love them Barber Halves.....

Jeff, Great to see you at FUN. Congratulations on your acquisition. Nice coin and a fair price. It pays to be patient and wait for the market correction. Kudos!

Freshened pictures of the PC20 to add to the F12.

Both of these have been combined into a pending upgrade. Actually, I have two 1901-O's that are newps from two different sources in plan. As those transactions complete more fully, will share those news. One is for my 45 set. The other for my 30 set.

Raising a glass in Mike’s honor tonight, it’s been 4 year since he left all of us and I still find myself missing hit wit, humor and friendship frequently.
