Seems I have to be very careful how I word some of these, lets go this route on this one.
I don't understand why someone with a rare coin, new to ebay would make th e coin their first listing, and a 19 14D at that.
A rare coin, new ebayer, and very poor pictures sure makes details around the date and mint mark hard to make out the de tails?
I guess it could keep the price down it making it a good deal for someone.

This is a very easy to spot alteration of a 1944-D. I've reported it.
44 ?
That 1914 photo, with a filter,
just for help if needed.
No alteration.
Well the blurry pics are for a reason. That huge gap between the 9 and second "1" is a sure give away not to mention the mint mark shape and location
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Even with the blurred pic it's very easy to tell it's an alteration. It's worth one cent. There seems to be a group with little or no feedback listing this junk on ebay. That's been going on for a couple of months now.
Funny isn't, sort-a looks like my typo in my title comment 19 14D LOL!

Thank You!

Yes It could be a 44.

But too far out of focus to be 100%
No-there's NO doubt that it is an altered 1944-D.

One more thing you can't see do to bad pics ... A true 1914-D will not have the designer initials V.D.B. under the shoulder, the designer initials where not placed on this area of the coin until 1918.
How did that little Christmas phrase go?

About as fake as they get.

Not good at all
Yep, clearly an altered cent.... but it is still up with bids.... Cheers, RickO
As of 5 PM EDT it is still there. I've reported it again. Let's save the bidiots from themselves.
Look under Lincoln's shoulder. Do you see the designer's initials V.D.B.?
If so it is a fake as a real 14d does not have V.D.B. anywhere on the coin. A 44d does.

Also reported. Wonder how many reports are required to have it removed?

A good percentage of coins on ebay of late are either altered, counterfeit, or badly misrepresented and absurdly overpriced. That's nothing new but it seems to be worse now than it was in the past. Ebay needs to get control of things but I guess they just don't care.

Finally! I wonder how many more altered 1944-D cents are on ebay right now.
They for sure could get by me, but I've went down the entire search list about a week ago and then several times a day sense then I've gone down the newly listed trying to spot altered, fake, & counterfeits. This is the second one that I've posted that's been taken down.
I'm also searching for 55 DDO's the same way.

Altered '14-Ds are easy to identify if you know what to look for. The top is genuine and the bottom is the altered coin that's been discussed. Note the spacing between the "9" and the second "1." It's much wider on the altered coin. Also note the shape of the second "1." The two ones should match perfectly on a genuine coin. And always look for that "VDB" beneath the shoulder. It's usually present on an altered coin.
That is one of the worst fakes I have ever seen. Almost comical.
where there is fools who are easy to part with their cash there will be scammers, e-bay is just one of many sites that have scams by the dozen going on and as long as e-bay gets their $$$$ they could care less unless it affects their profit then they care

Here is the one I found on ebay the other day, I think its even worse.
