Hi All,
Me and my team shoots well over a thousand coins a day, It's tough work! One of our biggest struggles is getting all those thousands of coin images online in a timely fashion. We could use some help! So, I'm looking for people who don't live that far away from our home office in Orange County, CA to do some part time work. It's pretty straightforward, and can be done remotely. You just need a good internet connection. So, if you'd like to join the TrueView team or have any questions please feel free to DM me, or email parnold@collectors.com.

Another reason to look outside SoCal. Lower cost of living would equal lower salary pcgs would have to pay.

This may be an entry level - potentially- job, but having done repetitive work in my youth, I will say this is for someone who can stay focused and on task through hundreds of issues a day. There is potential for turnover. It might help to find a more experienced person who can appreciate the mission and satisfaction of simply getting pics online for people.

I'd imagine this work has nothing to do with photography, but rather has everything to do with cropping, formatting, recording and uploading of already processed images. If so, then I have done work like this in the past and it can be a lot harder to maintain focus than one might expect. Good luck on the search.

I agree. It sounds like what I did a lot for my ebay business before covid hit and kinda crashed my business. So I would love something like this if they would allow out of state residents to apply.

Makes no sense to restrict it to Ca. residents unless it's political. That's not a job that I would like to do unless it paid very well.

I don't know about political, sounds like they want someone who can get to the office now and then. California's a big state, bet they wouldn't be interested in someone who lives in Redding.

Then it becomes a nightmare processing payroll when you have payroll taxes in other states to worry about, and new rules to learn.

There are all sorts of laws that can complicate things when employees work in different states. Before Wayfair, Amazon only charged sales tax in states where they had offices, and friends who work for them spoke of how strict their rules were about not doing any work when on vacation or otherwise out of town when in a state where they didn't have a presence, lest the state decide they now did work there and sales tax should be charged. I realize that's an extreme example, but the point is that there are considerations just beyond whether or not you can drive into the office, even if the work is mostly/entirely remote.

That said, it may be possible to swing an arrangement where the new hire is an independent contractor instead of an employee, and that might get around some out-of-state issues, but that may also be deemed unnecessarily complicated or otherwise undesirable.

This is the crux of the issue as far as my understanding. We've had a few inquiries thus far. Thank you all for the response.

FYI. Most payroll software can handle varied state tax requirements.

If it's just cropping and such, there has to be automated software out there... If not, this may be a good opportunity to invest in a young engineer w/ experience in AI and machine learning. Automate the entire process and just have an eyeball looking at the raw photo files until AI can take that over as well.

Most of that can be automated at this point, and I would be surprised if PCGS is not using it given the 1000+ coins a day number... That means 2000+ images a day to crop and rotate, and given how many coins probably get more than two pictures, I'd guess closer to a minimum of 2,500 pictures a day.

You can also outsource it to India for really cheap. My guess is whoever they are hiring will be fixing the images that automation screws up on and reviewing/tweaking images before they are finalized and sent out.

A couple of individuals with expertise in programming have reached out regarding automation. In explaining our process they've been satisfied with the extent that we've automated. This is simply a matter of volume with tweaking the final image and quality checks before the image is deployed.

1995 Degree in Commercial Photography.
Photoshop expert since 1990.
A ton of photographic pre-press and color correction experience.

I prefer part time gigs along with my federal job which is also nearly 100% remote...
Spent all of the 80's in Southern California and still visit a couple friends there once or twice a year...
