There are all sorts of laws that can complicate things when employees work in different states. Before Wayfair, Amazon only charged sales tax in states where they had offices, and friends who work for them spoke of how strict their rules were about not doing any work when on vacation or otherwise out of town when in a state where they didn't have a presence, lest the state decide they now did work there and sales tax should be charged. I realize that's an extreme example, but the point is that there are considerations just beyond whether or not you can drive into the office, even if the work is mostly/entirely remote.

That said, it may be possible to swing an arrangement where the new hire is an independent contractor instead of an employee, and that might get around some out-of-state issues, but that may also be deemed unnecessarily complicated or otherwise undesirable.

FYI. Most payroll software can handle varied state tax requirements.

Most of that can be automated at this point, and I would be surprised if PCGS is not using it given the 1000+ coins a day number... That means 2000+ images a day to crop and rotate, and given how many coins probably get more than two pictures, I'd guess closer to a minimum of 2,500 pictures a day.

You can also outsource it to India for really cheap. My guess is whoever they are hiring will be fixing the images that automation screws up on and reviewing/tweaking images before they are finalized and sent out.

A ton of photographic pre-press and color correction experience.

I prefer part time gigs along with my federal job which is also nearly 100% remote...
Spent all of the 80's in Southern California and still visit a couple friends there once or twice a year...
