My 8 year old Escape decided it needed a new $6000 transmission on the way home from work a few weeks ago and after doing research and looking at repair options, I decided to cut my losses and got a brand new purty Crosstrek!

Flower arrangements are kinda tricky. I did my best, though. This is the last hurrah of the springtime wildflower patch. It’s drying up quick, but these late blooming flowers are giving it a nice send-off. They’re called Godetia, or more appropriately Farewell to Spring. Some thimble flowers are hanging in there as well. The vase is from a Laguna Beach artist that we discovered at his glass-blowing studio yesterday.

OK, getting an early start on the week.
This from this afternoon as a fighter jet vapor trail slices over Portage Lake complete with a floating iceberg:
And here are some closer views of the iceberg. Admittedly not Titanic sized, but it is notable for even appearing in Portage Lake given the many miles of distance that Portage Glacier has retreated in the past decades. The last time I saw floating icebergs here was almost half a century ago when I was still a college student.
On a side note, when my uncle traveled to Alaska in the late 1970s I brought him here to see where he and his men had hiked from Portage over the mountains to Valdez during World War II. He told me this entire lake (as seen in these photos) was completely glacier then and they walked over it enroute to their destination.
