Opinions on my newp gold dollar

I recently bought this on ebay. Something I hardly ever do. These type 2 gold dollars are tough to grade and are always weakly struck, which is often mistaken for wear. I thought it looked better than most I see in an AU grade. The OGH was a bonus.
Tell me what you think! Will it CAC gold?

I can’t speak to the CAC part but I like it.
If you are thinking it is MS I say no.
The long shot makes it look better than the close-ups because you can see the mint luster better.
Here's an AU-55 graded piece I bought 30 years ago. I still have it because I'm buried into it. Yes, prices can come down and stay down. The luster is probably better than your piece, but it does have a mark below the bust that probably knocked 3 points off the grade.
Here is one in an MS-63 holder, which will give you some idea about how full luster should look. The strike on the reverse attracted me to this one.
From what I can see, the coin looks fine as a 55, but I'd be very surprised if it were to receive a gold sticker from CAC.

55 but no sticker. Low end for the grade due to too many small marks overall. (Assuming that the marks are on the coin and not the plastic.)
@BillJones I continue to be grateful for your willingness to show picture examples of things like this. As a gold dollar guy this is very helpful for me to see not only a picture but with some commentary on what specifically to look for. Just wanted to say thanks!
Very nice for the grade!

My type 2 is a 58, I like that there’s no clashing and it has a pretty nice strike:

From the FWIW department, this is my PCGS 1854 T2 in 58. There are a few holder blemishes. I took these pics before I got SlabRenew.
I think it's properly graded at 55.
Here’s my 55 CAC. AU 55 too.

Very nice coin!
Unless there is something I am missing in the pictures, the OP’s coin looks solid for the grade. I like the coin.
I bet it would green sticker. The marks aren’t going to hurt it as a circulated piece.
Thanks for the opinions everyone. I like the coin and whether it is a 55 or 58, it makes little difference in the value.
Lots of nice looking coins posted! Tough to top that AU55 of @BillJones. Great strike on that one.
Me too.
Nice bit of classic gold. Congrats 👍
Late to the party, but I like your example. Looks very solid as a 55, or maybe a touch better (splitting hairs).

In looking at it, I would say good chance at a green sticker. I don’t see a gold sticker.
Still very nice coin and love the ogh.
I must say, this is one of the more pleasant to the eye threads!

Gold sticker unlikely. Green sticker, I’m rooting for you, but there’s a dark discoloration to the left of the chin and beneath it and hard to tell what it is on a tiny coin with magnified images.
always appreciate your shares. great eyes, and heck of collection.
Nice gold coin that looks like a solid 55.... No gold bean.... IMO... Cheers, RickO
Looks nice.
It is 50/50 if it green stickers even though I bet it does. Great type coin of a pretty type in a cool holder. It doesn't need a sticker to be cool. My type 2 dollar which is not nearly as nice

On the 1855, I look for a strong well struck 8.
Here’s my 1855.
You are the one I would go to for any opinions on a gold dollar so I'll just say I like it and leave it at that!
Looks like a typical AU55. If you want any bean on it at all, polish the slab up first.

Will it get a gold CAC sticker? No. It will not.
I don't even need to look at a photo to be right about that with 99.5% certainty. How do I know? Well, for starters, a little more than 750,000 of these were minted, and CoinFacts estimates 5500 extant Pieces. Of these there are a total of 3 gold-CAC stickered 1855 type II gold dollars. An XF40, an AU58, and an MS62. Additionally, for an AU55 coin to get a gold sticker it would more-or-less need to be a hands-down MS coin, which this one clearly is not. CAC is very picky about gold coins and the sticker rate is much lower than for silver/copper/nickel coins. Finally, there's a decent chance it has already been tried.
Since January 2020, Heritage has auctioned 107 1855 gold dollars. 8 have had CAC stickers. 4 are in NGC holders, 1 is a 67+ coin, one a 66 coin, one is a $40k Dahlonega coin. How do I know? Cuz I've been looking for a coin for my type set, and I prefer stuff in PCGS/CAC holders. Interestingly, Heritage has only ever auctioned a single Philly type 2 gold dollar with a gold CAC sticker, the NGC XF40 coin in 2019.
I've owned two:
This one, which did not CAC, probably due to insufficient luster (and maybe other factors):
And this one, which maybe, possibly hasn't been to CAC:
The OP's coin looks like a nice AU55. My fingers are crossed for you. If it does happen to get a green sticker, please be sure to update this thread. If by some miracle it gets a gold CAC sticker, please come here and gloat about it.
@BryceM is on the money (minimal pun) as usual

@BryceM, Thanks for the info on CAC 1855's. I had no idea what a rarity I was hoping for. I am not a CAC guy and have never submitted any coins to them. I have a few that I purchased with bean, and have sold a few that later received green/gold beans, but never "made one" myself. I am planning a trip to NJ once they open up for walk throughs again.
