I traded for a piece of EARLY gold!

ashelandasheland Posts: 24,426 ✭✭✭✭✭

This is one type I didn’t ever expect to have, it wasn’t even on my radar. And I like this particular example.

Pretty simple, I gave 5 100oz silver bars... I got this coin and 400 bucks.

Plus, it’s off to PCGS for a reholder (gold shield and true view, included in the deal)

It’ll look awesome in that new holder!

What do you all think? Good deal? Stupid move? The 500 ozs could go way up or down. Hard to tell. But it’s a super cool coin! To me anyway... :D

Pretty accurate pictures showing color...

Silver could go up, but how many times in your life do you have the opportunity to buy/trade for a 1797 Gold coin? That's amazing, I'd love to have that over some bulky bars... 😄

I think a rare coin is still a vary good investment. Numismatics holds its value and increases more than bullion.
For example even though gold is rising in value, the u.s. mint still produces gold bullion. Even if it’s stops there will be more bullion for people to own. On the other hand a rare coin such as a 1797 $10 is extremely rare and high in demand. None are being minted and few survive. I think your coin will hold its value better than any silver or gold bullion.

That is a coin that will always be in demand. It is a type I never owned.

Interesting coin. It's got some dirt, but doesn't appear all that original (from those photos). Still, I'd take it in a heartbeat over some silver bullion any day of the week. Congrats on the trade!

A Good trade? I am clueless.

What you really did was trade silver bullion (very little cost to convert to cash) for a nice numismatic coin.

If that was your intent and you are happy with the coin then you did well no matter what each sells for in future years.

Based on what you said it sounds as if you accomplished your goal. Congrats
