I traded for a piece of EARLY gold!

This is one type I didn’t ever expect to have, it wasn’t even on my radar. And I like this particular example.
Pretty simple, I gave 5 100oz silver bars... I got this coin and 400 bucks.
Plus, it’s off to PCGS for a reholder (gold shield and true view, included in the deal)
It’ll look awesome in that new holder!
What do you all think? Good deal? Stupid move? The 500 ozs could go way up or down. Hard to tell. But it’s a super cool coin! To me anyway...
Pretty accurate pictures showing color...

Sweet!
I think you made the right choice. There are tons of silver bars in the world, not a lot of these ladies left! Congrats!

I'd much rather have that gold than that silver. Nice deal!

Thanks everybody! This is a huge deal for me. I’m more of the “few hundred dollar coin budget” typically. I figured, why not... this is impressive and historical. I love it!

How many times did you take out the 5 bars to admire them? Probably not too often. This is a much better choice!
Congrats!

Great coin and great date!
Beautiful coin !
Very nice! You have BD-4, the last of the 1797s issued. Dannreuther estimates 3,500 - 5,000 minted, 90 - 100 known.
Nice work!
It would have been a no brainer for me, but I love gold so much more than silver.
Congrats on a sweet pick up!!!

I think you did good.
Congrats!

Great deal on it and enjoy.
Oh, so YOU ended up with that one, eh? Why am I not surprised?
Did you get image of the bars ?
Agree, I would trade silver for gold any day
BTW, who cares what bullion does? I’d rather have that coin than five big, boring bricks of rather bland bullion silver any day.
Who knows what the better investment would be, over the long term? Personally, I think like a collector first and investor second.
That’s an amazing example!

Nothing like early gold! Congrats on the coin!
Yeah give me that coin over the silver bars any day, love it!

Silver could go up, but how many times in your life do you have the opportunity to buy/trade for a 1797 Gold coin? That's amazing, I'd love to have that over some bulky bars... 😄

WOW! Just wow. I was not expecting that when I opened the thread! Very very nice coin! I'm just a little jealous.... lol
I think you struck gold. I like it a lot and would rather have it than 5 silver bricks any day.

i think you made a great trade. congrats!
Great coin. And you solved your storage problem .
Congrats
I think a rare coin is still a vary good investment. Numismatics holds its value and increases more than bullion.
For example even though gold is rising in value, the u.s. mint still produces gold bullion. Even if it’s stops there will be more bullion for people to own. On the other hand a rare coin such as a 1797 $10 is extremely rare and high in demand. None are being minted and few survive. I think your coin will hold its value better than any silver or gold bullion.
That is a coin that will always be in demand. It is a type I never owned.
you made one helluva deal for that coin - what a steal - beautiful coin - thanks for sharing
Only the die hard stackers would disapprove of this. Sweet pickup.
Interesting coin. It's got some dirt, but doesn't appear all that original (from those photos). Still, I'd take it in a heartbeat over some silver bullion any day of the week. Congrats on the trade!
A Good trade? I am clueless.
What you really did was trade silver bullion (very little cost to convert to cash) for a nice numismatic coin.
If that was your intent and you are happy with the coin then you did well no matter what each sells for in future years.
Based on what you said it sounds as if you accomplished your goal. Congrats
Wow!!
What an awesome coin to own.
I'm really happy for you.
