Awesome pickup! The coin looks wonderful and I can’t wait to see the Trueview! Such a scarce coin and I really love that it was actually used in commerce. So much character and nice eye appeal to boot. The stories that coin could tell... Well done!

Thanks everybody! This is a huge deal for me. I’m more of the “few hundred dollar coin budget” typically. I figured, why not... this is impressive and historical. I love it!
Yeah, same idea for me. When I had the opportunity to pick up the last piece of Charlotte gold I bought I let go of a little bit of 90% a day or two later. My "budget" sounds similar to yours... unless something crazy happens I can always pick up more 90% but like your deal, the price on the Charlotte gold was too good to pass up.
Anyway, if you change your mind and decide to sell her, judging from the comments here you can find plenty for buyers right here.
Hopefully, you've had the silver bars for awhile and they've gone up in value with the bullion Market. That would be icing on the cake. But even if you were into the bars at the current spot price, I think you made an Excellent trade.
Maybe silver goes up. Maybe the rare coin market goes down. Regardless, I think having a piece of 18th century gold would be a highlight of many collections.
Now you need to get working on the rest of the 18th Century gold type set

Actually I did excellent, I almost doubled the value that I had in the bars. It puts me in this coin well below wholesale.

Naw ... that's not really how economics works. You traded current fair value. Okay ... now that that's out of the way ... great trade. The character, history, and romance of that Eagle are monumental in comparison to the sterility of the silver bricks.

Congrats! That’s an aspirational coin for most of us. Getting that coin for such a low cost basis is a huge win. I get the opportunity cost and today’s value, but since you’re a collector, I think you’re good to consider your position to be exactly as you stated it.
Turning silver bars into a numismatic rarity is an amazing win. When silver was at $28ish (2008?) I sold a bunch of (mostly) junk 90% and bought a 14D Lincoln. I’ve never missed those dimes. The fact that I got them when silver was more like $4 only makes it sweeter to me.
I consider myself to be a stacker/collector. I sold off a large portion of my silver bars and rounds a while back and purchased gold coins with the funds. I have never regretted it! Storing silver can be a royal PITA if you have a lot of it.
Terry-- that is a great score! The coin you have acquired is extraordinary, and your deal left you the winner my opinion. I wish I had that coin! Great job!
That's a great coin! Since reholdering was a part of the deal, it would've been awesome to crack it + play around with it for a bit before sending it off again.

I finagled a way to get an 18th century eagle too. They're immensely cool. Congrats.
I’d love to see it! 👍

Hellova coin, cool example of a type many collectors aspire to someday own and very few ever do. Congratulations!

The OP's coin sold via Heritage not too far back. The sale price wasn't so far off the current spot price of silver X 500.
Their photos are pretty nice too:

Better investment IMHO.
Rare, early gold will continue to soar and it’s almost impossible to find.
You did well.
